hey everyone, i have a question about what headers i should get. i've been reading this board alot for the past few weeks and i'm sure this question has come up many times, but i'll ask again. This summer i plan on getting cai, headers, and slp totl catback. Even though it is a long ways away, i want to get a hotcam the following summer. So, my question is: Should i spend the extra money and get long tube headers(since i want the cam later) or just get shorties/midlength headers? i don't really plan on lowering my car, so clearance is not an issue. will there be a big difference in power gain between long tube and shorties(with cam)?

i'm a college student, so i kinda like to save up as much summer money as possible, but still buy a few goodies with it.

just thought of another question: Is tuning required after installing a hotcam?

If emmisions arent a problem, then why get a hotcam?

If emmisions arent a problem...then definetly get LT's if u plan on doing a cam and serious mods. You'll benifit better with the LT'S over the shorties.

In that sense, i'd go way BIGGER then a hotcam if you dont have to take emmisions. The only reason why everyone tends to get the hotcam kit is b/c it passes emmisions, otherwise the majoirty of people would go bigger. Not all, but a lot would. JMO

and yes, tuning is key in any cam, including the hotcam, inorder to get hte most out of it. Dyno tune is the best, but at least a mail order tune is needed IMO.

I think you would be better off going with the long tubes. Matter of fact, there's a group purchase on FLP LT's right now!! (If you can't tell, I'm trying to get some more people for the current FLP GP.)

well i haven't done a lot of looking, but the hotcam seems to be about the best prices, and i can get it as a whole kit. the way i understand it is that anything much bigger than a hotcam or cc305 kind of a b!tch on the street in normal traffic(i could be way off, because i just started considering a cam.)

The FLP's are normally $1250--the GP price is $1180. This is the first GP on FLP's I've ever seen, so I was quick to hop on it. These are more expensive than Hooker or Jet Hot LT's but worth it in my opinion. Whatever you do decide on, make sure it's exactly what you want, then wait for a sale or GP because they come along all the time. (Except for the FLP's of course. )

Hot cam is a crappy street cam IMO. Too much overlap so its idle isnt any good, and power isnt much better. You can get a much bigger cam to sound more docile, be more streetable, and make more power, as long as emissions are not a problem.

most people go with the hotcam kit because of emissions, gas mileage, and its street friendly with a little performance. just food for thought

So what's a good cam that is streetable/gets good gas mileage but don't have to worry about emissions? From what I've heard people that do the lt4 hot cam kit get 30 rwhp-that's not good??

Mine dropped 0 on the interstate, but city driving I probably lost about 3-4 mpg, I only get about 15-16mpg, although I still get about 28mpg on the interstate.

My brothers 95 Z28 made 363 rwhp on stock, ****ty ported heads, ran 11's in the 1/4 on motor, and still got 25 mph on the interstate....all with a hotcam. We were pleased with it.
