Long Tubes and Eibach springs

I am almost done with my Long Tube install and it looks like I am going to have an inch or less of ground clearence when I take the car off the lift. Hence I am looking to get rid of my eibach pro-kit for some stock ride hight springs.

Here's the problem, I don't want standard springs. I wanted the Eibach drag launch set but after speaking with some one there, they also lower the car about an inch and a half.

What is the best spring setup out there that rides at stock hight that will help on a drag launch? Is it better to go with stiffer rear or lighter progressive rate rear? And, what about fronts.

I have a 96 1LE and feel like a fool for selling off my old springs 2 years ago.

They were 360 lbs/in in the front and 130-170 lbs/in in the rear.

I am not so much concerned with matching 1LE standards for SCCA racing, I would rather drag, but do still want to be able to have fun on back mountian type roads. Any suggestions?

I've heard of people using rear springs from the 6 cylinder Camaro to get better launches on a drag car. Might wanna look into that.

i have a pro kit and long tubes on my car. there is 2.5" of clearance under the collector flange. there are pics of the grouind clearance in my website in the link below.

Well, in the rear V6 springs should do the trick. I would suggest coil overs for the front since you can fine tune them with the ride hieght on the road you want and loosen them up at the track

For anyone else that may be in the same situation.. I did a little research and spoke with a rep at SLP

SLP sells SS and Firehawk replacement springs

Part # 70013
SPRINGS, OPTIONAL PROGRESSIVE PACKAGE, 2000-2002 CAMARO SS/FIREHAWK (set of 4) for $135.00 plus $25.00 shipping

they will work on 93+, the 2000-2002 is just the years they were offered on the car from the dealer.

Fronts are 285-492lbs/in and rears are 85-191lbs/in and ride at stock height.

They also sell part # 720782798 SPRINGS, FRONT, LEVEL II, 1996-2000 CAMARO SS/FIREHAWK/COMP T/A 69.95 and

part # 720783798 SPRINGS, REAR, LEVEL II, 1996-2000 CAMARO SS/FIREHAWK/COMP T/A 69.95

The level II getup is supposed to be stock ride hight as well and spring rates according to the SLP rep basically the same.

I think I am going to go with the 70013 setup, its cheap and better than stock. They appear like they will perform better than my old 1LE springs. I hate to spend money and not upgrade. I will miss the lowered look, but the long tubes are bad@ss so I guess I will live.

Edit -> didn't see the post about 2.5 inches of ground clearence until after submitting this one... will measure tomorrow, I have a steep drive way so that may not be enough, but if I have 2.5" as well, I may try and keep it. Thanks for the replies guys!

If you have the pro kit then it shouldnt be too bad. I have hooker LT's with the pro kit 1.5" drop. They are low but not to the point where you hit everyrthing. You do need to be careful on speedbumps and stuff like that. But for normal driving its no big deal just gotta be little more careful. The headers sit about 2.5-3" off ground. I would never put stock springs back on. Stock ride height looks horrible.

Just as JTS95TA said, just be careful. Its better to be cautious then sorry, so just take it slow around speed bumps and stuff of that nature. But there are somethings that are just unavoidable, so just grit your teeth and hope for the best, lol

I've got the Level II setup on my car which was offered in 1996 for the 1996SS. I am nearly positive they advertise a drop of ~1" with this kit. I think this is even in my documentation that came with the car? I'll see if I can find it but either way, the Level II is definitely not the stock ride height (by just comparing the SS with Level II to the stock Camaro Z28).

I've had 2" drop with Long tubes and never had any real big problems, just don't go over speed bumps or down steep drives and it'll be fine.

What he said. I've never scraped anything I didn't expect to scrape on, driving daily with longtubes and the sportline springs. Stay away from speedbumps, and steep inclines/declines.

Thats my problem......... My driveway is quite steep. Hopefully it will work out. There is definatly more room than I orginally thought. I am almost done with the install but have only worked on it one day this week. I am going to have to cut a piece out of the intermediate pipe to allow room for the y pipe to wrap around the tranny mount. Oh.. and summit lists the 02 sims incorrectly in their catalog. The 95-96 f/body b/body ones are for b body cars only. So watch out for that.

If I were in your shoes, I'd just move. Long tubes over-ride an inadequate driveway to support them. Therefore, before I sacrificed long tubes and a lowered car, I'd just consider moving

Or just get some cement from the hardware store and do some custom driveway fabrication
