Looking at buying a '94, low oil pressure?
Hi folks.
I ran a search on idle oil pressure and the concensus seems to be ~20psi.
The one I am looking runs maybe 10, but not sure if its the guage or interpreting it since there are no numbers except 80. I'd like to know where ya'll are seeing your needle hanging out at full hot with fans on and what RPM (since that can have an effect).
I am assuming its at the first hash mark is 20, and this one hangs out right in the middle between 0 and that first hash mark. Its above the red, but just looks low.
Appreciate any input.

I dont know how much it helps, but when my car is fully hot, my pressure is just over the 1/4 mark. That does sound a little low to me, but again, as you said it could just be the guage.
Hope this helps some.

Alot of it has to do with the oil in it, and the weather. If it's a really hot day and you have a thin oil in the car, it's probably only going to read ~10-15 at idle at operating temp. Thats why most people switch to a thicker oil in the summer and a thinner one in the winter. Find out what kind of oil is in the car and let us know.
BTW, my car has Mobile 1 10w-30 and it's consistently 90-100* here, and my idle oil pressure is around 15-17, according to the guage.

when the car is cold it should read around 40 + .. then drop down as it warms up ...at idle it should read at 10-20 but it also depend on mileage....plus teh factory guages are horrible anyways lol...at WOT it should read around 40 also

No doubt the variables are an unknown. This car had about 104K miles on it and I also turned the AC off so it would run as hot as it could get on only one fan. It seem to go much lower as it ran hotter. It was about 95 degrees at the time.
I totally brain farted and didn't think to see what oil and how long it has been in there since it seemed a decent enough color. Not to mention pay close enough attention to the idle speed. I'll check those out tonight.
So you know why it bugged me after the fact, I am use to my LS6 motor running 28 - 30 PSI @ 800 RPM with an oil temp as high as 240 and coollant in the high 220's, and that's using 5W-30. Lot less miles on the clock though.
Thanks!!

Thanks for the replies. After seeing the car again, the idle is right on what Ryan had above and is using a 10-30 that is due for a change. Start up pressure was over 40 and stayed high for some time, only dropping when full warm to just shy of 20. When allowed to heat up to fan on temps, only then did it get to 10-15.
Pretty quite valvetrain for an LT1 so looks like no worries and I'll pick it up on Friday.
Thanks again

yeah mine has the same issue, at idle it goes down around the first hash mark, maybe a lil lower depending on conditions... but as soon as i tap the gas it shoots up so, im assuming as long as u have the pressure to sustain 40 PSI or so at 1500+ RPMs your oil pump should be good... JMHO
