looking at MAC mids... any input?

hello,

i am currently heavily considering the mac midlength headers for my car. i have decided on those as opposed to LTs due to the fact that i'll be keeping the car mild in terms of power levels (bolt-ons + tune and that's about it), and that my driveway doesn't lend itself to great ground clearance. after many searches i have discovered that the power difference, all other things equal, between long tubes and midlengths is, IMO, negligable (sp). will midlengths get me to 300rwhp with a tune and all other mods? or am i somewhat flawed in my reasoning. thanks for the help!

Re: looking at MAC mids... any input?

well, if you do decide to go bigger, *eventually* the 1 5/8s primaries will hold you up
rksport.com has theirs (middies) for sale and theirs have 1 3/4 primaries
they are about 450 right now (i'm waiting to get mine) and they come with everything needed (y-pipe included, gaskets, etc.)
and also, is your t/a an auto or stick?
if stick, i'd say it would easily get up to 300 with a tune, and probably would also with an auto
good luck with whatever you choose

Well, even up to 400+ rwhp, the dyno results for heads/cam packages from www.advancedinduction.com show the same results between LT's and MAC mids.

To me, the 1 5/8" primaries do not hold you up until VERy high HP numbers, and they actually help the low end TQ.

I've been VERY happy with mine. I gained 0.6 seconds, and 4-5 MPH in the 1/4 mile with them and the Hooker catback.

With the MAC mids, catback, CAI, and 1.6 RR's, you'll be at 300 rwhp. Just like with LT's

do you have any timeslips?
i'm not the one who is concerned about dyno pulls, just about real world times
i thought there was a thread on it a while back
i'm just wondering if you have any info on some times, i'd be curious to see them compare to the long tubes, mids, etc.

Yes, I do, but you have to campare my stock times(with CAI) to the new times. The weather sucked in both cases, so the numbers aren't as good as they will be this fall with cooler weather. The weather was the same for both runs though, so you can compare numbers.

Stock with CAI
60' 2.22
330 6.21
1/8 9.43
MPH 76.94
1000 12.16
1/4 14.46
MPH 98.0

MAC mids & Catback
60' 2.15
330 5.96
1/8 9.03
MPH 81.58
1000 11.67
1/4 13.8
MPH 102.0

I'm looking forward to a 13.5@103-104 with good weather this fall.

Dan

I'm happy with my MACs. Install wasn't bad compared to some others. Other then the EGR tube not reaching I haven't had any problems...they've been on for months with no coating and don't look bad yet.

Re: looking at MAC mids... any input?

Id say they are overall a GREAT header.

My only complaint is that the y pipe on mine hangs just a tad low. I wish it was raised about an inch and a half. I scrape going over big speedbumps, or if I have 4 people in the car. I had once considered it, but I definately would not lower my car now.

Re: looking at MAC mids... any input?

I ran MACs for 2 years, up until recently when I swapped them out for JH long tubes. I do have a few complaints with the MACs, but overall they were a pleasure to have bolted to my heads. Anywho...

The collectors use a 2-stud style collector, not a traditional 3-stud style. Mine leaked a good bit. The bolts also kept coming loose on them.

If you don't get them CERAMIC COATED (not the HTS coating, it's basically paint), they will rust within a few weeks. Mine looked HORRIBLE after 6 months. I didn't even like opening the hood to show my engine bay.

Other than those things, the gains were great. Plug access is by FAR the best offered by any shorty/mid-length header, and the install was very easy.
