losing gear??...in an automatic??
well....satrting off it an automatic like i said and i keep losing gear...like when driving normally it would sorta heitate to change gear.....there would be a delay like when clutching for a shift in a manual...i thought that was weird.....i got on nit to c what would happen and when it went to shift at higher rpms boom smacked the rev limiter like it was in neutral...ten wouldnt downshift back into 1st and kept revving like it was in nuetral when i hit the gas....does anybody know what would cause this????....thankss

Thats all that car got?? for a 97 thats some low miles. I got a 97 A4 also and my tranny went out at like 78k. They kinda suck. From what it sounds, I'd say your tranny is in need of a rebuild. Take it to a tranny shop for an estimate. I'd take it to a couple of shops.
