low rpm stumble

mods are in the sig + home ported heads

I have this %*(@ low rpm stumble that doesn't go away. I finally replaced my burnt plug wires, etc. Opti is not that old, etc.

If I try to go steady with a rpm between 1500 and 2000, it feels like I can't get teh engine to rev smoothly, there is always some kind of stumble every other second or so

Any ideas?

Does this happen on start up or when the car is warmed up?

Check your oil for coolant.

Is your oil pressure low?

Did you use thread sealer on the headbolts?

Definately sounds ignition related. Check and recheck all the plugs and wires. When you're done, have a friend check them too. I know it's a pain in the @$$, but so is the plug/wire setup on our cars!

Sounds just like plug wires to me. I've got a couple of burnt wires that need to be replaced. I'm going over the valve covers this time. Burnt wires gets old when you have to keep replacing them. The pulley cut one as well.

Not sure if this is completely related but I think I have a small vacuum leak too. When the car is cold it idles fine, but within a few minutes the RPMs go up to 1500. Then the burnt wires cause the missing problem. One of the other stupid things I did was get the #6 & #8 wires reversed on the opti... this feels like a burnt wire miss too. Crappy gas mileage is a result of either so check everything 3 times just to make sure. Tie everything up and away from everything... (over the valve covers).

Hope all goes well,

Mescaline

I just replaced the wires with over the valve cover wires, which solved lots of the misses I had, etc. The plugs are pretty new either.

Oil and coolant are fine. It happens all the time consistantly.

I didn't think about the vacuum leak though, but why would it only be at one RPM?

Here's the typical symptom: get on a flat road, any gear at 1500 rpm or so and steady gas: it looks like the rpm climbs a little bit then goes down regularly. Actually now that I think of it, it's more like a surge than a stumble but it's hard to describe. It's like at regular interval I was changing the gas for a split second
