LS1 brake install question spendle removal?

I cant seem to get the spendle off my LT1 because of the lower ball joint connected to it. Any tricks to get it off without specific tools or do I have to have something specific for that. I can get everything off but that ball joint.

A pickle fork will do the trick. If you don't have, or can't find anything locally in your toolbox to get it out you might just have to run down and buy one, or borrow from a buddy.

Notice the flats areas that are made into the spindle on the sides of where the ball joint studs go. Use a hammer to smack it on those flat areas and the vibrations will usually cause the joint to separate. You might have to use a larger hammer on the opposite side to "back up" the spindle as you hit it. You should loosen the castle nut several turns, but leave it on, so the joint does not pop loose unexpectedly and hurt you or something else. This method usually works for tie rod ends, too.

A pickle fork is guaranteed to ruin the rubber on your ball-joint. Try using a 2 arm gear puller like this. You can borrow one from Autozone for free. And like shoebox said, just loosen the castle nut, but leave it on so everything doesn't fly off when it gives!

I just used a hammer and beat the **** out of it until it came off. Rubber was ok and the joints are fine. Although i don't condone this type of behavior, i was pissed at it at the time and had to get it out of my system before i set my car on fire. Yea... they're a PITA to get off

Thx everyone got em off with some good old hammer action. Nice to know where you can whale on stuff and where not. Now on to figuring out how to get the LS1 brake line fitting on to the LT1 metal brake lines.
