LS1 brake upgrade people

For those who have done it themselves. How hard/easy was it? The brakes lines , are they compatible/long enough? Better feel/quicker stops?

Better stops, VERY easy to do, just remove and replace. As for lines length, Idont know. I went with Earls Stainless lines for a LS1 car. But a definite thumbs up from me.

Thumbs up

You will need to upgrade to the LS1 brake lines. The LT1 lines are too short.

I reused my LT1 brake lines. I thought they fit just fine and have for the past three years. Also, the brake lines are "keyed" to fit the brake line bracket on the frame. The LS1 lines I had (off a 98) did not fit this bracket. I was worried that without a secure locking connection that the rubber hose line would work loose from the metal brake line. That is why I reused the LT1 lines.

Q
Did the rear lines work ok or have you swapped to ls1 rear brakes also?
Did it include the line from the body to the rear end?

rear brakes on an ls1 are totally different from a lt1 car, the lt1 car uses a single brake caliper for brakes and for your parking brake, the ls1 rear brakes have a caliper for the brakes and a brake shoe inside the rotor for the parking brake

you would need the complete backing plates, mounts, calipers, parking brake cables, maybe it would work not sure on all the brackets, and if the car has ASR then that brings more different parts into the picture

Easy swap... did it in under 3 hours. Reused the LT1 lines with no problems too..... but i had to bend the bracket on the frame down a little so the lines wouldn't kink. And you will most likely need an alignment after installation.

LS1 rear lines will fit on LT1 cars. I have them on mine.
The driver side was a bit long so the bend was a bit sharper than I was comfortable with, so I drilled a new hole in the car and slotted the hole in the brake line bracket to make the fit better.

Yes, a slight bend is need to ensure a good fit. I forgot about that. I also agree that an alignment is highly recommended.

So, for anyone like dreamer1q who's tried using Earls stainless lines for an LS1 car, were you able to attach the Earls line securely at the brake line bracket without any problem?

Thanks,
Rob
