LT 1 questions

Hello all,

I am new here and my friend owns a 1996 Z28. We have a slight disagreement about what is really in the car and were hoping you guys could get it worked out. I searched high and low and could not find anything.

First he claims that there was a FIVE speed manual with the V-8 for the years 1993 to 1995 as an option (basicly the newer but not LS1 new body style).

Second, he claims that the 1996 Camaro had a hurst shifter option that gave a higher HP rating. Also claimes it moves him from a two bolt main to a four bolt main block? What is the true answer?

Would any of this be true?

Thanks in advance

Hate to say it, but nothing your friend said is true.

5-speeds were only available for all V6 models; every V8 came with a 6-speed T56.

A shifter doesn't give you horsepower. The Hurst was an option on the WS6 and SS packages.

All f-body LT1 blocks were 2 bolt mains, while Corvette blocks were 4-bolt.

The only other way a 4-bolt block is in an F-body is in the limited production '97's, which had LT4 motors, but those are VERY rare (only ~100 of each were made), and some GM replacement LT1's were 4-bolt mains.

Rumor has it that if you got the engine replaced under warranty by the dealer... you got a 4 bolt main LT1.
