LT1 burning oil?

the small block is notorious for the valve seals causing that problem. What happens is when the car sits for long periods of time, the valve seals harden and that is what's causing the blue smoke. Over time, they will leak a little oil past them, and that's what you're burning off. There is no need to worry, it is quite common. As for your buddies Cobra, Some oil consuption is fine, but in newer vehicles that is fairly rare. That car was probably abused fairly often and the rings were bad, hence the adding oil.
