lt1 carb or not?

I might be able to get the lt1 out of my old 94 camaro. Im doing a v8 swap into a 86 s-10. My tranny's already off being built. Its a th-350. Could I still run the lt1 with a th-350 behind. Also would it just be easier to carb it. And if I did what else would I have to change.

As long as the TH350 has the standard SBC bolt pattern it will work. It would be easier to carb an LT1 for the swap but, you will not be reaching the full potential of the engine.

The main thing Im worried about is keeping it cheap and simple. Just basically the pros and cons of carb vs efi. Will I have to modify the wiring harness to stay efi?

I vote EFI.
If you already have a complete LT1 then it will for sure be cheaper than converting to carb. Don't be afraid of the wiring, it takes about 5 wires to make it run. The rest of the wiring is gauges, fans, ect.

If not keeping the injection the LT1 has little to offer over a gen 1 with say Vortec heads. Without the precision computer controls the compression does not work out so well either you will endup running it rich to stop detonation and endup with crappy milage extreme wear and less power as a result.

You'll need an electric fuel pump. Was the S-10 carbed originally? If not see if you can find fuel injection hard fuel lines for an S10 at a junkyard or something. On my thirdgen firebird, I had to get a different sending unit for the gas tank too since I put in an electric fuel pump in the tank(for fuel injection).

Try to find an S10 forum for S10 specific stuff, I just don't know enough about S10s.

The other thing is the speedometer. On my 700R4, I removed the speedo gears, heated(used heat gun) and pounded on a 4L60E reluctor, then put a 4L60E VSS in where the 700r4 vss used to be. Now, this was for an electric speedo. You may have to convert to an electric speedo if yours is mechanical. Also, I don't know if what I did on my 700R4 can be done to a TH350.

If the TH350 uses a TV cable like a 700R4, you will need a 93 Throttle body, 93 TV cable, and 93 throttle bracket. By 93 - I mean 93 Camaro/Firebird LT1 parts.

Thirdgen.org has a really good LTX/LSX Engine swap forum inside of their message board. Even though its thirdgen firebird/camaro based, it might have some answers you are seeking for LTX-based engine swapping.
