LT1 flywheel on SBC w/ GMPP ministarter not working!

I bought this starter about a year ago from a GM dealer when I still had my T5:

http://www.jegs.com/i/GM+Performance...61146/10002/-1

Spent good money on it, and I love it. Very strong, sounds good, never had a problem until now. I go to bolt up the LT1 T56 flywheel for a test fit, and the bendix gear is resting on the flywheel! I thought I remember seeing somewhere that there was a shim that came from the factory that went between the flywheel and crank. But after a call to my GM dealer, they said they could not find any kind of shim like that. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is? I figured guys are putting LT1 starters on SBC, I should be able to use a SBC starter with an LT1 flywheel. Any ideas??

I might be inclined to trade my my starter for an LT1 starter. I paid about $200 for it, but I did some grinding on it for clearance issues

I'm new on here, Im usually on thirdgen.org, but I wanted to see if some of you 4th gen guys could help me out.

GM definitely does make starter shims. There are two, one is 1 x 1 7/8 x 5/32, and it's part # 1246249. The other is 24.4 x 106.7 x .38, and it is part # 10008053.

sorry, I should have specified. I meant Crankshaft shims that go between the flywheel and the crankshaft. My problem is that the bendix is basically engaging the flywheel at a rested state. Starter shims will only help the vertical alignment, Im looking at horizontal at this point.
