Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

Well an 03-04 Cobra costs 25-35K so add some mods to it and you could be wll into 30-40k range and run lower 11's. Then you start breaking halfshafts and trannies so more money. With 10k you could easily buy a LT1 car and mod it to run low 11's. All it would take would be a small cam, converter, exhaust, PCM tune, RR's and drag radials with stock 3.23's it will run all over most Cobras. You save 20k. I just finished a friends car just like above and it ran 11.18@125mph on a 150shot and it had stone stock heads/intake, suspension, rear even stock injectors. Later Clint

And I am not saying it can't be done but the money needed to put in an LT1 car is pretty significant to run those times. Your sig is a prime example of that.
The initial thread wanted to know what it would take to run with 03/04 Cobras. My response is, whatever it takes to run somewhere in the mid to low 11's and/or 120+ mph.

I think he was refering to his new setup...no times yet but he ran low 10s all day long with ported stock heads/n20/306 cam. Now he has the same setup with trickflow heads.

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

Do what explain to people it's not that hard to run quick using alot of stock parts and not alot of money? I am a budget racer and even though my car has run low 10's@134mph I am not talking about it. I did run 10.80's@126mph with a heads/cam stock bottomend, stock rear, stock suspension etc... in full street trim so I do know what it takes to run or outrun new Cobras. I rode in one that has twin turbos and made 700rwhp man it was a blast but not any faster than my LT1 on n2o. If I had 40-50k to play with I would probably build one just to have b/c I like all Hotrods. Later

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

lotta cobras in my neck of the woods usually just convert to a solid rear, pulley up, and put a 50-100shot on, most are mid/low 11's on "motor", and well into the 10's on the bottle. so...maybe a 2500 dollar investment all together for an 03-04 cobra. boost is a wonderful thing.

What i was saying was compairing prices... The subject between these cars always ends up with some one bringing this up.. Its a honda excuse.. Doesn't matter what you spend, in the end it comes down to who crosses the finish line first not who spent the most money to do it.

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

I have a freind with an 04 Cobra and we race regularly (after every mod he does).

The first time we raced when he was stock and I have my present mods (runs mid 11s without any effort), I beat him by about 6 car lengths, from a stop it want any prettier.
He added a cat-back, and the "L" pulley and he narrowed the float race maybe a car , but the stop race was still a slaughter. He then added headers , no cats, smallest pulley (I think he said 2.inch or something) Ported pulley, Fancy intake system, big fuel pump and in line pump and a dyno tune (dynoed 460/4 something on a mustang dyno) I beat him by about a half a car from a float and 2 from a stop. He then added some nitrous, I can't remember the horsepower it was 6 something, but his torque I remember was 705. he beats me by about 4 (from 30 to 110) and he edges me out by about 1 1/2 cars from a stop (when he gets a good launch , by his driving terms).

For the dollar people, he has over 40 thou in his car and I have less than 12 thou , including the price of my car.

Yes. It was in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords. I can't find the article online anywhere. I tried googling it and theres tons of references to the article..but everytime i click it its a dead link. my search criteria was "03 cobra evan smith 12.4." I'm sure if you look hard you can find it somewhere. it was a 12.4 @113. This is the same guy who got an 11.9 or so @118 mph out of a z06..and a 12.8 something out of a ls1 camaro.

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

12.8's are achievable with an fbody possibly even quicker, 12.4 in a cobra, yea if you can powershift and maybe some tires or really good track prep (my friend drove his 03 mach 1 to a 12.90@103 bone stock, he shifted the hell outta it, but he broke 13's, so id say a cobra is quite capable of it with proper driver)

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

I was at Norwalk about 20 times this past summer on test n tune nights and I have not seen a Cobra run worse than 12.8. One guy that I ran into was running an overdrive pulley (more boost) and exhaust and ran 11.70's. And that was in a vert! Guys who were not turning up the boost ran mid 12's all day long, no problem. A good driver running 12.4 stock is realistic under the right conditions in my opinion.

Yes, call me a liar. I know its coming. I was there all summer. The track is outstanding so he has that going for him.

Plus, of all the ones I have seen I will say that about half of them at least have a couple of bolt on's. They run 11's very easily with minimal mods and money.

I hate to say this because I hate Ford's and would never own one, however the Cobra's are flat out nasty. I watched a guy run a 11.77 and he took the top down and cruised home with a car with the streetability of a grocery getter. Nasty, flat out nasty.

I do think Ford kind of gave up on catching the LS1's of the time and that's why they threw a blower on the car. Cheating in a way. But like one guy said earlier, it's all about who crosses the line first.

Ported heads with larger valves, hotcam, 3800 stall, pacesetter LT's, TSP true duals, 12 bolt with 3.73's.

Think thats enough to put me in front of a stock one?

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

Problably depends on the work on the heads but I would say that's a hell of a start if nothing else!
