Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

You're so right, Sick.

I think my 388 will be up to the task when it's done in about a month.

388, Trickflow ported heads, hughes 3k stall, 1.6 roller rockers, True Duals, 36lb injectors, Walbro pump, Pacesetter LT's, CAI, adjustable torque arm, Spohn LCA's, Nittos, and a tune,

One of my goals was to beat that damn Cobra!!!

I'll tell you what, the stroker SBCs are so awesome in my opinion, when I build SBCs for a performance use I will build nothing less than a 383.

thats fine and dandy if you have the airflow to match the extra cubes, which i see you do with the afr's Have you ever run that set up?

Think thats enough to put me in front of a stock one?

Run something better then the hotcam

the car came with a hotcam and it being my first car with decent power im not wanting to make it as quick as possible. I have the money and time to do it but i don't want to end up doing that and then killing myself or worse somebody else because i couldn't handle my ****. Eventually i will be moving up to a 847 or larger but for right now im just wanting to get a feel for the car.

I was also considering the full bolt ons with an 100 wet shot, but I dont know if i will end up spending almost as much as I would on a procharger/vortech setup and still run slower and have to refill the bottle. Whats your opinions for weighing it out? Its an auto as well, and I dont want to be paying the price over and over every time I hit the pump. Maybe the bolt on package is the best for my circumstances, but FI is definately tempting Replys were great, thanks guys

For bolt ons, how close would these take me:
Long tubes, CAI, Y-pipe with high flow cats, cutout in stock I-pipe (eventually bassani-style 2.5" true duals and an x pipe in place of the y when funds permit), TB bypass, Ported TB, pullies and an electric water pump

Then, how much closer will it take me with a 100 shot? What will the cost be of this as opposed to a procharger/vortech setup, maybe with some forged pistons?
6 psi is fine on stock bottom, but you need a real good CONSERVATIVE tune. Keep the timing low aand the A/F fat and you'll be ok for wahile. Forged pistons are obviously better, but not necessary right away. A nice single turbo kit or S/C would be plenty to run with a pulleyed cobra. Pulley cobras up here at sea level run 116-118mph or so. They also can have their blower ported in which case they run 120-122mph with full bolt-ons.

I raced a pullied cobra at the track. He had 2.8 pulley, catback, CAI and shifter. I had a pig rich tune with my heads/cam setup (368rwhp/336rwtq). I ran a 12.5 @ 114mph best of the day and he an a 12.3 @ 116mph. Obviously we both could have gotten better ET's, but our mph was only off by 2 (~20rwhp). Once I leaned my fuel out on the dyno, my output jumped to 383rwhp/353rwtq (that would have put me even mph wise with him). Point is, heads/cam/bolt-ons can run with pullied cobras. You might not be all of them, but you'll be righ there.

You wil probably trap 114-116mph with 6psi of boost with a good tune. Throw in a FI cam and ported heads and it just gets better from there.

I rarely get to the track so I don't have the thing dialed in hard yet (shifting etc), but having to let out completely then punching again (because of limiter) in the 2nd to 3rd shift. I ran back to back 11.70s at 116 plus mph. I later bought tuner cat and dialed in the shifting and such and with the G-tech I went from a before of 11.59 (shifting issues) at 118 mph to an 11.23 @ 121 mph with the shifting repaired. I will get some hard track times when the track opens up, but it wont be a fair comparrisson because I am pulling the heads of and adding 2.05 valves (blending the VJ as well), new springs and a thinner head gasket.

When I built my 383 I bought a used Eagle kit from a freind. The pistons that came with it have an 18CC dish and with the stock gasket and my cleaned up AFRs combustion chambers (59cc, I blended the ridges of the CNC job smooth in each chamber and slightly unshrouded the valves, then measured the head cc {cc kit from Summit}) I have a 10:1 static compression. I'm hoping to get a few horses from those mods.

I also got a nice bit o money for christmas and am preparing a new forged shortblock now that will have 11:1 compression (can't wait for it).

But my last motor was a long rod 355 with home ported heads a CC 305 with 1.6 rockers and 11.5 :1 compression..
The exhaust system was the same as I have now and so was the intake system (I added larger injectors and a new fuel pump with the 383) and that set-up ran 12.29 ( in 50 degree weather ,Oklahomas 1500 ft ele) @ 113 mph, best. It averaged in the 12.4s @ 111 to 113 mph.

The street manners of the 383 are a dream, very easy to drive (sounds like a bat out of hell) but when you touch the gas at any speed it gets up and moves, the speedo moves like the tach !!! lol

Re: lt1 hanging with 03 cobra

with only long tubes i would give a cobra a good run for its money. but now i have a cam and tons of other stuff so i dont know yet. i raced one when i was untuned and got him by about 2 cars pulling then i hit my speed governor.
