LT1 heads

What is the bigest valve that you can fit into the LT1 head and what would be the flow diff ..

IE: you have a 2.0 intake valve fully ported head flowing 270 @ 600

If you went to a 2.02 v how much cfm..
If you went to a 2.05 v how much cfm..

i don't think you can go bigger then this

on a 4.000 bore motor i wouldnt go to a bigger then stock valve. flow depends on a lot of things, and a big variable is what size bore the head is flowed on. if you go to big of valve you can actucally hurt performance if the valve get schrouded by the bore. and thats easy to do on a 4.000" bore stock shortblock. big valves dont nessecarily make more power, or more flow for that matter.

Depending on the size of the motor, a larger valve could actually hurt your power because of a loss in velocity if the motor can't keep it up. Stock bottom end cars are making great power with stock sized valves to boot. Getting a 2.02/1.56 to fit requires new seats, which is a pain as said before. I've never heard of larger than a 2.02 in ANY LT1 head save for one time: Canfield heads, this guy had 2.08's in them.

Sometimes "more valves" are better than "bigger valves"

Are those the Arao Engineering Dominion's??? I've been lusting after a set of those for a long time, but the overall project price is wayyy out of my range, as is converting SB2.2 heads over.

Has ANYONE gotten a setup with the Dominions running on our car yet and dynoed it?

The 2.0" valve will fit on the stock valve seat and is the largest diameter that will. The added cost of having new seats installed is not worth the gain. I have seen a 2.0" valve LT1 head flow 278cfm and I have seen the same head with 2.05" valves flow 279cfm on the same bench, and actually lose low lift flow. I wouldn't do it.

Lloyd Elliot told me that even though 2.02/1.60's will fit, there is no flow gain over 2.00/1.56s and sometimes they even flow less.

Unless you get the seats cut bigger then there is a realistic limit to the valve size needed to flow max through the seat, much less what will actually fit.

Exactly the same advice I got from a well respected shop. They even had to get a set of 1.6" Manley severe duty exhaust valves for me, and have them cut down to 1.56"

I did see a totally rebuilt set of Canfields with 2.08" intakes, but I understand there was about $8K of work on the heads.... they were flowing in "Dominion" territory though. Same shop that told me to stick with the 2.00/1.56 combo.

Yes.... the pictures are Unstable Bob's Dominion/Arao heads. Still not bolted onto anything yet. I told him I "had a vision" of his Dominions sitting on top of my 381..... and he told me to "f... off"

Welllll..... he sold his 25th T/A and his 79 455 Olds powered T/A (they don't call him "Unstable" for no reason at all)....

I think the AMX will be one hell of a car when he gets done with it.

And in the interest of accuracy... he did not tell me to f' off..... as I now recall the conversation, I said "I had this vision of your Dominions sitting on top of my 381"..... and he said, "And I have a vision of my size 12 planted firmly in the middle of your a**"

He should burn for selling the 25th. But that's just me. I'm a T/A fan.

Given the heads, and need for custom headers and a custom intake, what else is involved with the swap??? New pistons with revised clearances, ect???
