LT1 Ignition options, i.e.: Opti...LTCC...LS1 coils
Hello all. My dad's '97 WS6 has given him some trouble cranking lately (150k on original opti). Granted, the fuel filter was DONE, but we checked the codes and there was a low resolution stored code. I went through three vented optis on my '96 so I'm looking at options for his car now before it craps out (and it would be a perfect time to swap out his leaking water pump for a meziere). Anyhow, I checked autozone for an opti price and they only wanted $130 for it (WTF, mine were close to $500 each). Also, I read about swapping to LS1 coils (don't know how expensive or difficult this is, but it sounds neat), and about something called a Duraspark (but I've heard this is expensive.) Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
B.J.

First piece of advice: DON'T BUY AN AUTOZONE OPTI!!!! Always buy a brand new GM unit, you can get the vented version from Jason Cromer or Dal for about $210 or thereabouts.
Alternatives:
LTCC is the coil conversion kit, but it's going to run you in the area of $600+ for a grand total, and you still need an opti.
Dynaspark is the other you were thinking of. It's simply an "enhanced" opti if you will. Much more durable than the regular opti, but it's going to cost ya.
Delteq is the other common option. Instead of using 8 individual coils, this uses 4 dual coils. Still well over the price of a new opti.
