LT1 to a LT4 conv. for a 89 iroc? will it work?
I Am Wanting To Convert My 89 Iroc 5.7 Tpi To The Lt4 Using The Gm Performance Parts Kit. The Reason I Ask Is That The Kit Is For A 96 To 97 Gm. The Kit Comes With Complete Heads, Hot Cam, Roller Rockers And All Gaskets Needed. Will This Bolt Up Correctly And Does Anyone Have Any Ideas Or Helpful Solutions To Help?

1. unless you have an LT1 block it will not work which the TPI you currently have is completely uncompatible.
2. The LT4 conversion kit is NOT worth the money for what you get. You'd be foolish to purchase it.
My suggestion is to use the search function and read about what you want to do. Read and learn. From there, you can make better decisions as to what your goals are and what your move should be.

The closest I see you getting is going to be something like the Fastburn heads which are modeled after the LT4s but will actually fit your engine then you could look into an lt1/lt4 intake being converted to work with your HEI. You could use the HOT cam if you wanted. Just from the questions you asked though you have a lot of reading to do before you understand this stuff enough to begin buying parts. On the plus side there is a lot of knowledge here just waiting for you to read through.
You are right in wanting to upgrade the heads and intake on that TPI as neither are particularly good compared to what is available today.

if you want to swap in an LT1 then do LT4, go for it, thats basically what I did. I didn't buy the kit though. Had the hotcam in for a while then put the LT4 heads on it. But none of it will work on the TPI engine as already stated.

the fast burn heads are a good idea you might also want to look into the accell super ram mainfold. I have heard that together they are a leathal tq combo with the right cam. and you don't have the opti problem.
If you have a tpi in it know you can find good ls1 blocks. Thats what I'd like to see someone do.
