LT1 & LT4 corvette valve covers

I was looking into the corvette black valve covers and found them new for 100 a piece through GM (but they are plastic?) I was told by the parts man
here are the part numbers can you tell me for sure?

are they plastic from the factory? or where can I get good ones

They are composite, and they are very good ones. You will need studs and screws to hold them on, and a new oil filler cap too.

They are a composite cover and they are the GOOD ones. You will have to modify them to get them to work with any other rocker arm than stock. Do a search that will help you find how to do that.

P.S. If you look at my link in my sig you will see a set of then, inow have a SS dress up kit on them.

I had the worst luck with the gaskets on the valve covers. Every time I pulled them off, the gasket would expand by like 3-4 inches. I ended up having to cut them down and attach them with RTV into the groove in the valve cover.

I have bad luck with simple things.

No, they will not. The composite covers normally come from GM with gaskets.

To install, you will also need:

8 of part # 10108675 bolt
8 of part # 10108674 stud
1 of part # 12555685 oil cap

I run Comp Pro Mags under mine without modification or interference. That was one of the reasons I bought the covers in the first place.

Considering Crane Golds were used with the LT4 and these valve covers that statement isn't really true.

yeah that happens to me too.

a good trick to stop that is to "glue" the gasket into the valve cover with some weather stripping adheasive

Looks and I think they are a bit taller. Also no need for modification with RR's.

That happened to me and I really thought I was halucinating. I mean one minute they fit to size and the next they were obnoxiously long. I was able to place them back in the slots, but I have a feeling they are leaking on the rear corners. Not sure if they are the right size before applied and stretch with heat?
