LT1 Running rough as a cobb

95 TA w/90k on the clock. Just got the heads redone after a blown headgasket along with new gm platnum plugs . Wires and coil have around 40k on them they are both MSD along with a 6AL.

It sounds like it is missing and the power is very low. Back fires thru the exhaust when you put a load on the motor like taking off from a stoplight. and smells really rich all the time

also if any of the wires are bad will MSD warranty just one or the whole set, or nothing.

I unplugged the 6al and it ran worse, so I have a bad feeling that I am opti bound. any quality advise would be greatly appreciated.

Is it typically just the cap and rotor that is bad or the whole unit. How do you test the DIST. or can you.

THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL.

Re: LT1 Running rough as a cobb

If you pulled the heads or had a blown head gasket, there is a chance that coolant leaked into the opti, and yes that could cause it. I would also check to ensure the wires are in the correct order on the opti and plugs, firing out of order can make it run like crap as well.

Re: LT1 Running rough as a cobb

I recently replaced my O2 sensors which totally got rid of my backfiring (also only while under load) and helped lean out the incredibly rich exhaust smell I had.

I'd try replacing the wires first, even with just a cheap $15 set to see if
they are the issue. No sense stressing or blowing money over an Opti right
away.
