LT1 Solid Roller Cam question

LT1 Solid Roller Cam question
A friend of mine that knows the older SBC pretty well was talking to me about my upcoming Solid Roller Cam install. He inquired as to whether I'd bought a special bronze distributor/oil pump drive gear. I know what he's referring to in regards to the old SBC in that if you went to a solid roller, you pretty much *had* to use a Bronze gear because the metal of the Solid Roller Cams were too hard/different from the stock distributor gears on THOSE motors. But, I believe the newer LT1 roller cammed by the factory motors don't have that issue. Am I wrong? I've never seen anyone post about needing a special drive gear for the Solid Roller Cam upgrades. I don't even know if ANYONE makes this specialized gear.
If you know the specifics of this, pro or con, please let me know. Thanks!

Re: LT1 Solid Roller Cam question
It's only issue if you have a billet steel cam with a steel gear. Some newer billet cams have a cast iron gear to be compatible with standard oil drive gears.
Comp Cams make copper and polymer oil drive gears.

I would e-mail them but if its a cam motion cam then you will need a bronze oil pump drive gear. Putting together mine right now and I am going to order one from Summit. I belive you need a .427 gear to fit the stock drive.
this is the one I belive I need so you will need the same thing.

Re: LT1 Solid Roller Cam question
Yes on most billet cores you still need to change the oil pump drive gear material away from the cast iron to bronze or poly.
Or you can get the billet core with a iron gear on it so you don't have to do this.
Crane and Crower are the only two who make the .427" gears.
