LT1 steps

Can some of you guys give me a list, in order, of what i should do to my car. I am only 16 with a really high insurance payment. so i want to get the most speed for my money.

The car is a 1994 Trans Am.

Seriously though, an exhaust cutout is good bang for the buck. Maybe some other basic mods like a cold air induction.

Start with a good cat-back exhuast system, and an intake. Then worry about your insurance payments. Once you start doing major mods, more money will be going into the car.

A word of CAUTION from experience:

The faster you make your car, the less reliable you will make your car... If this is your main mode of transportation, I suggest just doing an exhaust system or something and enjoying the car as-is, so you're not walking to school.

#1 - CAI - Doh. Colder air = more power
#2 - Exhaust - Any aftermarker cat-back will work fine. Might as well pick up a $40 carsound high-flow cat too
#3 - Headers - Bolt-On power
#4 - 1.6 Roller Rockers or Stall Converter.

I am 19 and let me tell you this, One if this is your main ride, don't do anything but REAL simple bolt ones, such as Cold Air Intake, Cat-back Exhaust, headers, blowers, NOX, cams, heads, are all out. They require too much stuff to be messed with under the hood. The two things that i find kill cars are modding them for more power which puts more strain on the whole car, and while putting in the more complecated mods other parts get moved, taken apart and there are alot of things that can go wrong, i would not say most of the time, but alot of times when something is messed with, it is not put back just as it was and it will break later. Been there done that, now i have my 95 Z28 with 60,000 miles, the most major thing i am doing to it is having the oil pan gasket replaced, but i will add and exhaust and then make it an SS, the hood, the rims, the working Ram-Air, the spoiler ect. The cars are fast enough for most people, esp you at 16. You will thank your self later when you car is still running reliably, you don't want to make long trips and hope to make it there and back, that really sucks.

if it has t-tops i would to sub-frame connectors first, best thing to tighten the ride and help keep the leaks out

Im 18 mods in sig. either go big or buy a toyota. honestly though its nice to mod but key word is but when you get up in the higher hp ranges the weakest link always breaks which in my case was a tranny so unless you got a little pocket of dough for replacement parts just do free mods.

Im pretty much in the same spot as you are. I just turned 17 in september. I have a 94 z28 with about 96,000 miles on it. The car only had 1 owner and is in excellent condition. I have edelbrock headers in my garage right now, but I didnt install them yet. I plan on replacing the intire exhaust system, so thats what I would do first. I just got a short shifter on tuesday so thats another thing you could do. Start small first, cause who knows you could carless a year from now. Just take it as it goes.

Headers do not effect driveability in a negative way,IMO

N2O, when used correctly,I.E upgraded fuel system and a mild shot, will not hurt your car

MEATHEAD!!!! Shoulda mentioned that. In that case, leave it as is. if thats your main ride anyway. i would throw some headers on that badboy though and maybe some gears but wouldn't go any further. Well in your situation anyway.
