LT1 timing chain concerns,

I was looking at a timing chain gif that Shoebox posted last week and I noticed at #1 @ TDC the timing marks were at 12oclock on both the cam and crank sporckets.

I had #1 cylinder at TDC and installed the timing set with the timing mark on the cam sprocket at 6oclock and the crank sprocket at 12oclock, just like you would do on a normal SBC.
Am I going to have to yank the chain off and re-do it? The oil pan gasket is a pain in the *** to put back on (motor is in the car).

Re: LT1 timing chain concerns,

You're good to go man! Just to make sure I'm thinking about this correctly the dot on the cam gear is at the bottom and the one on the crank gear is at the top

Is this the diagram you are referring too?

Re: LT1 timing chain concerns,

cool, thanks.
The animated gif showed the timing set rotating and showed where the marks were for tdc of each cylinder.

This is the gif I saw,

Re: LT1 timing chain concerns,

That's because the cam turns 1/2 the speed of the crankshaft.
Therefore, the cam mark will be at 12 o'clock at one point and 6 o'clock one crankshaft revolution later. As the crank turns, they align, they don't align, they align, they don't align...

Re: LT1 timing chain concerns,

it actualy dosent matter if the dots are pointing twards each other or away, it sure is easyer lining them up when they point twards each other though.
