LT1 car rocking from side to side!

i have an lt1/t56 swap in my 95 camaro, and for the last 2 days, ive noticed the car shaking more and more as i rev the motor...especially at 2k rpms...i opened the hood a minute ago, just to see if everything looked okay, but i had to get into the office.

basically, there is now physical evidence of any problem, other than a belt that has seen better days...do you guys have any suggestions as to where to look this evening?

thanks,
dan

if you need more info on the shaking let me know...its basically a vibration in the entire car, including the steering wheel and very evident on the passenger seat.

What instances does it happen? Need a better description. Is there anytime that it doesnt shake? Does it shake a idle, or just when driving?

Does the shaking increase with speed at the same rate your speeding up? Or does the shaking incrase with speed at the same rate your RPM is increasing? Determine this first.

If its in time with RPM its engine related, if its in time with speed its going to be drivetrain related. (Rev the engine while idling and see if it does it then)

Its likely the latter, and most likely your tires out of balance. Next thing to check is your driveshaft and finally your clutch.

not to hijack, but ive got a similar problem. But it does it in park at 2k and stops and drive around 2-3k. But especially on decelleration its pretty violent. Im going to replace my dshaft with an aluminum one and going to swap the tq converter. Its bad feels like someones wacking it with a hammer and then suddenly its smooth even when it shifts a 6200 its smooth?

Once you determine if it is Engine RPM related,(put in nuetral and rev responsibly) verify that your balancer is not wobbling, see if you have a Dual Friction clutch. I have had these (they possess slidung weights) get out of balance on me before. I had to remove them, clean the diaphrams that the weights slide on, and re-install. Problem corrected. I hope it isn't this. It's tedious. Good luck!

what if it was an auto, could it be the tq converter?

i gave a good look at the car, ,and i realized that the car is doing it between 1.5k and 2k rpms. it shakes rather violently, and if i hold it at that rpm, and i dont see where the hell to look.

the motor was just fine the other day, but i was driving it really hard on friday. i had to cover 35 miles in a very short period of time because my uncle totalled his truck, so needless to say, it wasnt under 95mph on the way there...

Just curious have you guys had your breaks changed lately? I know that is more of a broad vibration but still shouldnt be over looked. If you have warped rotors that could also cause the problem, them more warped they become the more up the RPM you will notice it.

Anotehr idea is your plugs have you checked them? Old or bad plugs may not fire as well at low RPMs cause they are coated, just another thought.

Dont know if this will help but it is a vibration checklist that might help point you towards correcting it. http://www.tracyvette.com/vibrationdiagnosis.html

thanks for that website, ill have to check a few things.

i noticed that now, its getting much worse. on the highway, i can only get till 55 in 5th gear, because anything faster will get the car rocking from side to side. i got it up to 80 or 85 and upon deceleration, the car starting rocking again from side to side. i had to pop it into 4th (yes, at 85) and let the rpms slow down the car, and straighten it out.

has anyone ever seen this before?
