Lt4 heads?

ok the question i got, is going off the parts in my sig, the heads are stock heads ported, but i got a set of lt4 heads from someone the other day, and was wandering that if i get them ported as well if they would outperform the ported stockers? thanks

Well, all things being the same, yes. Do you have an LT4 intake?

If you want performance and are comparing similar dollar ivestment -i'd port the LT4 heads with bigger valves and a matched LT4 intake - from Edelbrock or a stocker if you have one.
Doing the same mods to LT1 heads and intake would yield less performance potential.

But you said you were comparing a similar dollar investment. The LT4 heads and intake are worth about $1400 more than the LT1 heads and intake, so you have to put $1400 less work in them to compare on an even cost basis. The LT1 with $1400 more work will obliterate the LT4.

I misdirected my point.
I mean similar MODIFICATION dollar investment. Original post says he owns LT4 heads and can get an LT4 intake.
Choices = he asked, which will yeild more power with similar porting.
Answer = LT4.

I wanted him to understand another benefit over LT1 is more capacity to improve the LT4 parts.

Chief, good answer.

...and the red paint on the LT4 looks great to boot!
It doesn't add any horse power, but it sure looks faster.

I have done the whole lt1 vs lt4 vs afr products

i will tell you this..... if both heads get the same amount of proper porting a lt4 head will always come out ahead. The lt4 head is 58cc so that helps bump the compression up a tad and the lt4 valves are larger and they weigh a significant amount less then ever a smaller lt1 valve.

you mean painting my heads victory red didn't get me 15 extra horsepower?

So the 58cc LT4 head bumps compression up over a 54cc stock head?????

For those keeping track this is typical of the missinformation you will find in these posts.

Those who look for REAL RESULTS will sing the praises of ported stock heads. Bench racers love to talk about LT1 or aftermarkt.

The LT1 and LT4 combustion chamber cc's were virtually identical. The LT4 engine had a higher static compression ratio because of smaller valve reliefs in the pistons.
Might want to take a look at this:

So what is your REAL advise? I was suggesting same money porting on his stock LT4 heads with a matching LT4 intake would make a more capable top end than ported stock LT1 heads and an LT1 intake..
If you or others have objective evidence that suggests otherwise - I'd love to see it. I do not have proof to my suggestions other than my car and reading other car's results.

Show me similarly ported LT1 and LT4 heads on the same shortblock and the LT1 top ended motor is more powerful - I am all ears and eyes!

The casting of the LT4 head is superior in what can be done to them. You can get better flow from the LT4 heads with port work over the LT1 heads. It really depends on who is doing the work. Also, I believe you can get your LT1 intake machined to mate with the LT4 heads.

hey guys appreciate the replies, yeah i was just curious as to if the lt4s would make more power being ported the same as the stock lt1 heads. i took the lt4 heads and dropped them off today to get them ported and have a buddy sending me an lt4 intake that i'm going to get worked on too. so we'll see how it goes. thanks
