LT4 hot cam ported heads???
any help, tips, and or information is greatly appreciated.
for a 1994 z28, how difficult would it be to install the LT4 hot cam kit. also, i plan to have the heads ported by air flow research. other than installing the kit, would there be any other modifications needed to be made in order for the car to run right. thanks for your help.

Re: LT4 hot cam ported heads???
Are you buying the HOTcam kit by itself and having a set of stock LT1 heads ported, or are you buying the complete LT4 conversion kit (LT4 HOTcam, LT4 heads, gaskets, etc)??
Regardless you'll need a tune. I put a HOTcam with some homeported LT1 heads on my car, ran it on the stock tune and then picked up .5 seconds in the 1/8th with a mail order tune.

Re: LT4 hot cam ported heads???
Before you go with a bigger than stock cam and ported heads you will need to complement these with the usual bolt on mods. By "bolt on" I mean intake, headers, catback exhaust, and any other small thing you deem necesary. Since you didn't post a signature or a mod list, I have no idea if you have this stuff or not, but if you don't you will need it. You will also need some sort of computer tune so your cars computer can make the most out of your new setup. You can contact madz28.com or pcmforless.com, they both can set you up with a tune for OBDI cars (94-95) for less than $100 if I remember correctly.
You will need to replace your timing chain while you're in there, a stock replacement one will work just fine. You can re-use the lifters and pushrods. I will caution you, this undertaking is not for the inexperienced. If you don't have much experience working on cars, you need to get some competent help or pay someone to do it. Most of the times you have a local F-body club near you who would be willing to help you out, most guys work for beer and pizza.
Oh, and please do a search for this stuff. I don't want that to come across as me being an ***, but you can just search in the LT1 tech section for "Cam Install" or "HOTcam Kit" or whatever and come up with more information than I could type in two hours.
