LT4 hotcam
Hey guys,
I just got a hot cam for my car. Question is, what else do you think I should buy to supplement the cam? And I've done a search for it but can't find it on the website anywhere here, there is a member who had a website that was pretty detailed on installation and troubleshooting tons of things on LT1's. I don't know who the member is and I can't find the webpage. Would anyone have any idea who I'm talking about?? Thanks a ton!!

Shoeboxes website is awesome...probably has helped every board member at one time or another..has a cam install guide

for the cam, most people replace the timing chain, and maybe the lifters depending on their shape

There are a few things you'll want to replace, as has been said the timing chain. You said that you have the cam, if you didn't buy the kit you'll want some 1.6 ratio roller rockers to get the most out of it(that's what the cam is supposed to use anyway). You'll need to borrow a crank hub puller, no big deal you can borrow it from autozone or most other auto parts stores. Make sure you drop the oil pan down in the front or you will run into problems when you remove the timing chain. The front of the oil pan gasket also seals the bottom of the timing chain cover. If you don't let the pan drop down you will rip the gasket. Not only that the cover will come out at a weird angle and mess up your crank seal, opti seal and waterpump drive seal. You'll also need new waterpump, timing cover and intake gaskets unless you are planning on using RTV to make your own seals. Don't forget the assembly lub on the cam either, doesn't take much though.
