Machining an LT1?

Is there anything that has to be machined differently than a first gen 350? The 2 machine shops that are close to me have never done any work on LT1's, but have built some REALLY Strong small blocks. They have all the modern equipment too.

Thanks

Machine work is the same; however, most shops that are unfamilar with LTXs want to make the compression lower than stock, when in actuality going higher than stock is preferable and safe on pump gas.

Lt1's have been on the road since 1992. I would pass on that shop.

This is very true, first guy I went to said there was no way I could run 10.5:1 on pump gas, and 12:1 was clear out of the question. The guy who did build my engine never batted an eye when I said 12:1 lol.

I was thinking the same as far as them never working on an LT1. Passing the shop up or not is his decision.

Well, there are only a hand full af LT1 around here. These guys build Hundreds of regular SB a year, for drag racing and circle track. I live in a small province on the east coast of Canada..LOL. The only notable builder is Golen Engines in NH which is 8 hours one way...

Both shops said it was no problem for the 11.8:1 I want, with a fuel injected motor. I will be picking 99% of the parts and doing all the asembling of the engine, so I will be checking EVERYTHING myself.
