MAF problem.NEED HELP QUICK

Im fixing to leave on a trip and i went to start up my car and started down the road and all of a sudden i put it in 5 gear and the car started to sputter. I got a SES light, so I checked my LT1 Scanmaster and it gave me a #48 code, which has something to do with the MAF. Does anyone have any idea where to start.I have a 96 SS m6 w/ OBD1 conversion. also i have a ported MAF housing. Please Help I need to leave soon and i dont want to break down in BFE.

I forgot to mention the Scanmaster said the MAF reading was at 461. And in the manual it says the range should be between 0-255. if that helps.

Hmm I just replaced the opti in my car, started it, and its running like crap. The SES light is on, and MAF also says 461 just like yours...you ever fix yours?...I dont know whats going on. Maybe someone out there knows?

How about just unplug the MAF and let it default to Speed Density until you have time to troubleshoot?

Do you have the GM service manual? It has a protocal to follow for investigating the MAF code. This will tell you if the MAF itself is bad or if a connection or other component is bad, before you go buying a new MAF.

I got the MAF code, did the check, and had to replace the MAF, which smoothed things out considerably.

I found out it was just one of the wires ripped out of the MAF plug...

It ended up being the MAF sensor I replaced it and that fixed my problem.
