Re: MAF reading low????

I believe that low MAF reading would indicate that you have a vacuum leak somewhere

Is there a method for finding
vacuum leaks or cleaning the MAF.

Re: MAF reading low????

What was the specific DTC code? DTC 48 = MAF Circuit problems, but I don't recall there being a code on OBD-I specific to "low MAF reading".

Re: MAF reading low????

i can kinda remember to what the scan had brought up since i dont have the scanner myself. i beleive it was somewhere among....

MAF LOW / Map

most i can rememeber to be honest. i noticed a hose underneath the bellow right before the MAF coming from the filter was unplugged. i plugged it back in but it still gave me the same reading after anothere scan. it wouldn't even let the code be cleared. anyone know whats going on?

Re: MAF reading low????

A few things it could be ...

1 A clogged Airfilter *I dont know if that would cause it, but it makes sense*
2 A vacuum leak *Likely*
3 If the filter was recenly cleaned/brand new, it may be possible that the oil from it is coating the MAF and causing the bad readings. In which case, it would need cleaned. Im not sure how to clean it, but I know them things are pretty tiny wires, so id say use a cutip and maybe rubbing alcohol and LIGHTLY touch it.

Re: MAF reading low????

You need the exact code. If you have a "generic" code list, and the scanner detects DTC 33 or DTC 34, it will indicate "MAP/MAF high" or MAF/MAP low".... and for a 94 and up LT1 that is a problem with the MAP sensor, not the MAF sensor. You need to get the exact code, then go to the LT1-specific code list at Shoebox's Tech Pages for the best list:

Re: MAF reading low????

Something wrong with the MAP sensor, or the wire/connector. It isn't unusual for the harness connector to dry out and crumble. Check that first.
