If you can physically see the particles, then they are bigger than 40 microns (the human eye can't see anything smaller than this) and any oil filter is going to trap 40 micron particles anyways.

Using a WIX oil filter on my 1996 Buick Regal, I still saw quite the collection of metallic dust on the drain plug with the hard drive magnet. It has 60,000 miles on it and I just started using a magnet.

On my Camaro I never see any. But the motor only has 6,000 miles on it. But if I don't see any now, regular use of the magnet will ensure I don't see any later.
