Using a WIX oil filter on my 1996 Buick Regal, I still saw quite the collection of metallic dust on the drain plug with the hard drive magnet. It has 60,000 miles on it and I just started using a magnet.
On my Camaro I never see any. But the motor only has 6,000 miles on it. But if I don't see any now, regular use of the magnet will ensure I don't see any later.
