Re: Mail order tune for solid roller 383
If you don't have a VE problem caused by too small intake or exhaust, that cam will still be pulling quite a bit past 7000, I've done plenty of motors with almost identical specs....are you sure it's not a 110 LSA with a desired ICL of 107? because that would drop the RPM range down some.

Bersaglierri,
Bryan Herter is one of my options but I hear mixed reviews. Have you used him?
MachinistOne,
I think you are exactly right. Funds did not allow for a single plane/24x this year, so I had Lloyd port my LT1 intake. I don't think the LT1 intake is the best option for high RPMs?
airflow,
Thanks for the offer, do you have a shop? I'll keep you in mind.
Orr89rocz,
Ever head to Pittsburgh Raceway park on test n' tune nights? Hopefully I will get there sometime this year.........
As my luck would have it when I finally got my rockers (8 week wait) I checked P2V and had just .058 clearance on the exhaust valve. That measurement was taken with a collapsed pushrod checker so there was plenty of deflection to,
I decided to get a new cam instead of clearancing the valve reliefs. I need to get the car back together soon and can't pull the engine back apart.
I contacted Mike Jones @ Jones Cams.. heard a lot of good things about him and decided to get a cam from him. They grind their own cams in house so he is setting me up with something that will give me more room. He uses his own proprietary program to come up with the best cam for your specific setup so I don't want to hear it is to big About 11 degrees less overlap than the last one. I went a little more aggressive with the lobes this time ..
290/295
259/260
110 LSA
106 ICL
.687/.677 w/ 1.6
So I guess we will never know how the other cam would have performed, but it will be for sale if anyone wants to ive it a try.

Re: Mail order tune for solid roller 383
I havent been out this year due to some other thursday night activities but I do get out there. I'm only 15 min from there. My black car isnt done yet but shouldnt be too far off now. thats primarily the car I'll race up there. My 99 ls1 car likely wont get raced too much since I know what it can do and its not that fun anymore
Jones is a great cam guy. You wont go wrong with his cams. I had one in my twin turbo and know a few guys running his stuff. They all work good.

Re: Mail order tune for solid roller 383
What's your 99 LS1 running? I last went in August last year.. made a 1.89 60, 12.9 @ 105 pass @ 3400#, street tires, SS4000, bolt ons. I had put 1.7's in last spring. When I tore the motor down for the build I found a broken intake valve spring. I was wondering why I was down in MPH... I wish I could have gotten my best time out of the bolt on combo before the build.

Up here in PA, with DA's over 1000 ft, I bet it goes 12.5's but I since got it dyno tuned and gained 12whp over the street tune I had in there and up'd the shift point a good 500 rpm due to the powerband hanging on much higher than we thought. So it should run better with the shift point change but DA is going to kill it and i got the interior back in it.

Re: Mail order tune for solid roller 383
Yea you will slow down a little here. 1000 ft is the best I have seen the DA.. in the late Fall and early Spring. Summertime is consistently 3000 - 4000. Damn this humidity! Today felt so hot, but it was only 90*.
I didn't realize the later 4th gens were so heavy. 3550 w/ driver?

Re: Mail order tune for solid roller 383
With my full interior on 17x11 rear wheels, 17x9.5 fronts, its 3686 with me in it, and i'm 175-180lbs depending Some gutted interior work and no spare I got it down to 3460lbs with me in it. I think I had the spare in it with abit more gas for 3550lbs the day i went 12.15.
Best DA I've seen at PRP was in late Oct I believe, week or 2 before close of season. It was 188 ft. My bolt on only L98 Iroc went 12.95 in that air. It picked up a ton from summer air.

Not to original poster, but dont you love it when guys jump in also asking for help but they are afraid to include their location in their signature?
If a shop in Florida is recommended it is hard for a Californian to get there.
Sorry, just a pet peeve.

Where did this occur? I see no mention of it in this thread?

Re: Mail order tune for solid roller 383
Well the car was back on the road in October last year. The tune I got from Ed allowed the car to run. I have been fine tuning myself to get different bugs sorted out. I can say this - the tune wasn't near good, but I didn't expect a whole lot. In person I am sure Ed could get this car running excellent. To add to this, I was unable to provide wideband logging for him to make adjustments. The wideband I have does not log it just has a analog output and display.
So onto my question - I need a controller to record the wideband analog signal and graph it against RPM input. This is a OBD1 car.. I have yet to find something that will work. The wideband is a NGK AFX, so I am not looking to buy a Innovate or other widebanmd package with datalogging capabilities.
The combo is sorting itself out.. My goal for the build was a 10.9 ET or better. Power felt nice and flat across the RPM range. On my third pass on the build, last week I ran..
1.58 60 ft
7.17 @ 95.6
11.28 @ 119.2
Through the day I was picking up and the air was getting warmer..
A/F - 12.5:1, 36* locked
+1200 ft DA, 3500 lbs, SS4000, Strange S60 4.3 gear, 28" MT Radial
I got my MWC subframes installed this week, and threw in a fresh set of plugs. AR3911 (8) were not cleaning up, so I stepped down to AR3923 (6). I have turned the advance back to 34* and leaned the A/F out a bit. More tuning will continue tomorrow...

I am running a dual wideband setup and love it. It is zietronix zt-2 and a zt-3 for the second. I bring that to a dash daq xl. Its as quick as pushing a button and im logging afr and rpm. I can then view logged data on screen or pull the sd card and moniter on laptop and can even convert to a file others can read via email or whatever. You have enough into your setup a nice dual setup would serve you well. The setup I have would be much cheaper without the dash daq and use a guage instead. The dash daq can also log obd2 cars given your hooked up to the obd2 port. You can also add other signals to the zt-2.
