mallory 685 harness wires not same color
#31
I jsut wired this box on my 89 camaro with external coil. wires were also not the same color but if you just trace the wiring from the coil it should go on easily. Looking at the instructions it says the yellow on the adapter harness is for coil positive. black is coil negative. SO on the adapter harness, the pink with black stripe comes from the coil positive so it goes to the yellow wire. White goes to the black wire to the 685 box.
Glad you figured it out I got to this thread late

you could try switching the white and the pink, (but I think it's wired up right now) . and if it still won't fire, you might have a bad box. Did you get the adapter plug to take the box out of the picture? Plug that in and if it fires, you have a bad box. They come with a new box.

If you have someone in your area that can make you one using a weatherpack connector to plug into the box, I'd have that done, and plug that in. If the car fires, you know for sure it's the box. I can send you a picture of one if that helps, Or I can make one up for you. I make weatherpack connectors all the time for stuff. It would take a few days for it to get to you though. I believe I told you the right way to wire it, as someone after me told you the same thing I did, so I'd think it is the box, but it wouldn't hurt to try the bypass plug too.

In case you are still working on this, I had the same problem and it turned out that I had barely touched one hot wire to the chassis of the Hyfire while I was wiring in a LED to show when the box was powered up. The Hyfire would function and the car would crank but it would not fire once. I went under the hood, found the ignition fuse and saw that it had blown.
