massive coolent leak after head cam install

I am all ready to fire up the car after 2 months of very slow work. Everything is done except for coolent, prime fuel pump, and connect battery.

I start putting coolent through the termostat housing, and at the 1.5 gallon mark i hear alot of splashing under the engine.
There is a nice puddle under the car on either side of the lowest part of the oil pan. and I can see it dripping between the oil pan and the starter.
I passed a dry papertowel around the coolent lines in back of the heads, but it comes up dry. It is definately not leaking from the front of the engine via waterpump because i got under and inspected throurally. I cant get a jack under the car so i can fit under and inspect the leak spot. It looks like it is holding about a gallon and a bit, but anything else leaks out like you were puring it on the ground urself

From the top i cannot detect a leak around the heads, where could this coolent be coming from?

sounds like the freeze plugs are either not in at all, or not in properly. Should be above the block skirt on either side

Check all hoses, including heater---since it apparently doesn't start leaking until it is full---and since you are bypassing the t-stat you are essentially filling the whole system. JMHO

Hmm, there was a freeze one night about a month ago,
could the little bit of water in the block frozen and pushed the plug out?

Is it possible that the block actually cracked during this freeze, the system had been flushed with water before i started the work

I cannot locate the freeze plugs in my Chilton manual, does shoe box or someone have any diagrams of their locations?

Do you have the knock sensor threaded into the block? There is a threaded plug on the other side in the same spot, is it in place? Never mind, I reread the post and I am an idiot.

put on some dirty cloths and get some safty goggles or a face shield than get under the car and have a friend fill the radiator with water. With a small flashlight you should be able to tell where the water is coming from.
Hope this helps.

I keep pouring more water in the system, and watch it drain, it seems to be coming from directly above the starter.

I am going to remove the starter in order to get a better look at where its coming from. I do see a 1/2 inch hole with no threads between the starter and oil pan, but it seems to go nowhere

IVE GOT IT!!!!!!!!

After i removed the starter you can clearly see the whole side of the block.

the water is gushing out the passenger side head, apparently there is a 1/2 inch hole where the temperature sensor would be on the drivers side head.

Luckily i looked at the stock heads i had removed, and sure eneugh, it should be plugged on the passenger side.

So, i just gotta remove the plug from the stock head, put thread sealer, and reinstall on the new passenger head.

I guess ill have to wait awhile for the starter to dry out before attempting to start it.

Thanks a lot for your help
Ill let yall know if i get this beast fired up today
