Unhappy master cylinder

failed inspection the other day at a hole in the wall place because of a "leaking master cylinder"

how long should a master cylinder in these cars last? I've only got 36k on the car so I was surprised.

Mine's still going at 95k miles. They don't all last the same. If they flunked you because of this, I guess the only thing you can do is replace it.

From what i understand (which isn't much) its not uncommon for them to leak right?

I'm not familiar with the garage and it seemed like a conflict of interests on their part. I'm just curious if it would be strange to have to replace the part this early before I fork over $344 for it.

I'll just keep checking the fluid and get another inspection somewhere else for now.

Is that an installed price? A brand new GM master cylinder is ~$140 wholesale/~$275 retail.

That's the installed price from the place that inspected me...they list the part at $225.41

The shop is in Austin. I didn't know this was a part of inspection either...it seems a little fishy to me.
