If you have the Extreme Duty Timing set from GM, check the water pump drive gear and where it mates to the back of the cam gear.

-Stock timing chain and gears - no damage there
-no damage on heads, springs, retainers. found today 2 totally fragged valve seals
-machine shop dissassembled block at no cost and said all bearings check out, no damage.
There was at least a full table spoon of metal in the bottom of the oil pan.Took a whole can of degreaser to clean all of it out..however the last oil fiter thant came off the motor had ALOT less metal in it than the first one to come off the motor. I guess I'll have everything cleaned, reassemble it and cross my fingers.

Edit: would the a GM Hot Cam tear up an oil pump drive? teethon it look really worn.

yes sir. its actually an odd setup..not a true stroker but a 355 w/ 6" rods and different style pistons than a stock lt1.

6" rod 355's arent that strange, its basicly a higher reving N/A 355. They make a good combo.

Were they the oring type valve seal? When they go, they create a LOT of metal (both the actual spring on the oring and then the metal on the lower seal body)

yes, that was the type of valve seal. since the machine shop said the block is in order im not going to reassemble it untill i clean the heads thoroughly.

Okay, can somebody confirm glitter vs this.

Oil looks black after sitting, but if I drag my finger across the oil I can see fine grey streaks appear in the oil, like it was a dull grey oil slick.

Take a magnet to the glitter to see if it's steel/cast iron or not. More info always helps.
