MSD Opti

MSD Opti
Anyone read into this yet? I heard that it's 200% more efficient for a true spark at cruising speeds while maintaining a much stronger spark at higher rpms. It's also $150 opposed to $200 for a stock replacement.
It also says that it's much more reliable and much less prone to failure.

Re: MSD Opti
Its a cap and rotor. I can't see how a cap/rotor can be "200% more efficient".... in fact, I can't even conceive what that means.
MSD claims the cap has a higher dielectric strenght, to better protect the insulation value from breaking down and allowing cross-firing between the conductors that run from each button on the cap to the corresponding plug wire terminal, and are embedded in the cap. It has been speculated by some that high voltage/multiple fire systems like the MSD cause the cap's dielectric strength to break down, and cause resulting misfires. Maybe the insulation value is 200% "stronger", but I don't see it as an issue of efficiency.
The existance (but unavailability) of this cap/rotor has been discussed here for at least 10 months.

I'm just in a quest for something more efficient then a stock opti for a 383 LE3 setup. Sorry to be such a pest.

Re: MSD Opti
The resonses you got are not directyed so much at you but at the fact that this comes up A LOT with people talking up the wondferful benifits and low price of a product which is not fully what they think it is, as they make the same mistake you did in thinking it is the whole thing when it is just a cap and rotor, and talk up the benifits and strength of a totally untested piece meant to replace fairly good already stock parts. Summit began taking orders last fall at the latest yet not a ojne has made it to the public.
