One good example of that was the Corvette's 1967 L-88 engine factory rated at 430hp. Actual HP was well over 500!

I owned a 67 Vette with the L-71 427 that was rated at 435HP. Everyone who bought one of those L-71s and believed the HP ratings thought they had the biggest dog engine in 67, when it was in fact the little know "heavy duty" engine, the L-88.

The guy who beat me didn't have a speed limiter, we raced from a 60 roll I was walking him good then I hit 115mph.

He was like " I told you these cars have high end power ".

Then I told him about my limiter.
get the 150 speedo and z rated tires and get rid of that ****! i'd be pissed if I was limited to 115. As for the stang, i'd put my money on you, but you're still gonna have to race. its not gonna be like beating a civic

i agree with its going to be close, a new stang verses and older Lt1, but if the z is running good you will beat him, but not by much

I raced a 2003 GT at the track, think he just had a CAI kit and some DR, he jumped out on me w/ a 2.0 60' time, I had a crappy 2.6 60' time, I pulled him in and passed about mid track and beat him by about 5 car lengths (at least) although I am not stock either. he trapped 99mph I trapped 107mph. I guess we are talking about a stock LT1 though vs. a stock 2003 GT though...

it will be a close race, but I think driver ability will come into play more than anything, launching ability will be the key factor, who ever can launch their car better and pull the best 60's times...

My car has the 150 speedo, I just need to program out the limiter.

1/2 a car is the least I have lost to a GT and it was a 5 speed with CAI and a cat back!

stock for stock, the LT1 and the new Stangs are a very close race, with both of them putting down low 14's/high 13's in the quarter...we might have an edge on HP but were giving up some weight too.

New stangs LOVE revs, if he knows how to launch it high without blowing off the tires you could have problems...if you can get a good launch and your car is running OK, it shuold be very close...if you want to get that slight advantage, do a search for "homemade CAI" on this board and make your own from PVC and a K&N filter...costs about $60

BTW if he ever puts gears in it ( they like 4.11's or 4.56's) forget it, your toast stock.

when i first got my car, i beat a GT of a street race and was soooooo happy, until i relaized they blow! at my locan track....high 14s is awesome for a GT, and i mean AWESOME! like john force has to drive it to a 14.8.........never seen an LT1 w/ a halfway decent driver run less than 14.8.....if you lose to a stock GT, get your car checked.

It can go either way, depending on driver stock for stock...you should out torque him down low...hopefully that'll work to your advantage...but both cars are very evenly matched

Not sure what year your talking about, but my slow *** 95 Vert could have managed a 14.8 if I could drive it good., and its giving up about 45HP and some weight to a new GT.

New GTs are putting down a average of 220rwhp bone stock. My freinds owns a performance shop along with a dyno jet and specializes in Mustangs and Vipers.

Id say as long as you can drive decent you will walk away very easy but if he hooks and you spin you will pay hell catching up!!

Right! the factory side exhaust was fabulous. GM offered it on the vettes from 65-69. Mine had it! Is was a nearly open exhaust. It had chambered pipes and one thin walled baffle.

Also, there are many examples of factory HP ratings games. Marketing departments had more influence over HP ratings than did the engineering departments.

When I first bought my 94 M6 Z28 some guy in a '02 GT Stang wanted to race, blew him off........stock. It is without a doubt that all GT's are slow. I have raced a couple of modified GT's as well, they aint got sh*t. Just fix that misfire, slap on a CAI to be safe and your good to roll.
