My Engine Has a Drinking Problem and Hot Flashes
OK, I know that in a 1-1/2 hours of road racing in a day, my car can drink upwards of a 1/2 gallon or more of water and overheat without cooling down when you let off. This has been the case for the last 2 weekend sessions. I figured it out when I got water in the oil. No, the overheating is not cause by low water levels.
OK, so I try some stop leak stuff and get the studs to seal. I know the studs sealed because after a whole 2 days of road racing, I change the oil and NO water in the oil. However, the engine is still drinking water and there is no oil in the water.
So here is the deal:
I know I probably have a blown head gasket or worse but the car runs fine except for a misfire that starts showing up when the car gets above 210 deg. or so. I have changed the ICM, coil and opti thinking these could be culprits. I now think my overheating AND water loss AND misfire is caused by a head gasket. Please anyone confirm this!?
I want to finish this last weekend of the season of racing before I pull the engine and replace the head gaskets but I can't seem to get the car to stay cool or keep power up when it starts to misfire. My only alternative left electrically is to replace the plugs and plug wires hoping it eliminates the high temp. misfire and thus the overheating.
Do I:
1. Try plugs and wires as a final try to get the car to stay cool and run this last weekend?
2. Not try to race and just end the season and pull the engine now?
