my final cam question(small cam comparison)

So I am building my LE1 headed 355 to pass smog and want a torquey setup that can dip mid to low 12s. I really need to pass smog and sound mild, or sleeper. I have a cc502 218/224 cam sitting around I could use. I am weighing out between the cc502 218/224, the crane 227 baby cam, and the lt4 hot cam. what should i do?

Re: my final cam question(small cam comparison)

Imho, one of the the best small cams out there is the LPE 211/219 .533/.560" with 1.6s on a 112...I ran it for 9 years in my 383, passed MDs emissions, got 24 mpg hwy, and ran high 11s/low 12s at 115...With a tiny bit of "is that a cam in there?" lope...

Re: my final cam question(small cam comparison)

Since you have the 502, use it. You may have trouble passing with the Hot Cam although I passed 2 of 3 tests with the 503 - just missed the NOX (no EGR). I don't think there is alot of performance difference with any of the cams you listed.

There is a LE1 emissions cam as well that does what you are looking for.

Re: my final cam question(small cam comparison)

The one you have seems pretty good----the 104227 is a good lil stump puller---easy tune and stock idle. JMHO

Depends on the idle you want

I think it boils down to what kind of idle you want. Do you want a stock
idle or a noticable idle? Anything more than the 104227 will start to sound
cammed. The 502 will sound like a hotcam, which is definately noticable.

Re: my final cam question(small cam comparison)

Actually you don't have much choice in the idle since the emissions pretty much dictates NO overlap. You can go from stock to a mild lump at idle, that's about it.

I currently have an LE1 cam in it but it is too big for california. I am paranoid of getting pulled over so would prefer to keep it sounding mild. what could I expect from the 502 cam with le1 ported heads and all supporting mods? I have all the mods in my sig.
