My LT1 feels sluggish...

Plugs are a year old, Taylor OVC wires were put on back in April. Car was running terrible, stinky and choking. When I would punch it, there would be pressure pushing upward on the pedal.

I replaced the air filter because it was black and weighed 3x as much as a new one, and now the smell is gone, my gas mileage is better (from 13), and the car does run a bit better, but it still has a funny sound. When I accelerate the sound isn't smooth, it's choppy with a slight flutter.

I pulled a few plugs and they look perfectly normal

I'm not throwing any codes. The car still has a slight upwards pressure on the pedal, but not near as bad as before I replaced the air filter.

I also put on a spare coil and it made no difference.

I tried to check my fuel pressure but my harbor freight gauge took a crap (The pin fell out of the threaded end).

The fuel filter was replaced in april of 2009. I am planning on replacing that just for the hell of it cause it's cheap and easy.

My fuel pump was replaced in May of 09 so I'm hoping that isn't it, but it IS a Walbro (I'm on my 3rd one), so you never know.

Any suggestions?

edit: I am on my 4th walbro

Do you have traction control? That's the only thing that might push back on your accel pedal.

Yes I do but I have it disabled in my tune (Not sure what difference that makes) and I also turn it off with the dash button.

I had read that the ASR will cause pressure on the pedal but even when I have traction the car feels sluggish and the sound is what is throwing me off. So I have checked the vacuum and it's good, I have replaced the air filter and checked all my hoses and my rubber intake elbow. I did have one cracked up hose on the p/s of the intake, the s shaped hose, so I replaced it.

I just replaced the fuel filter which was a waste of 11 bucks and the cup of gas that spilled out because the gas that came out was crystal clear and it didn't make any difference.

I am running out of things to check. It feels like a slight misfire or miss. It may be a bad wire or perhaps weak fuel pressure.

I will have to get a fuel pressure gauge on there I guess.

This car felt like a freight train last month. It's a real neck snapper now it's a slug. If I wanted it to feel like this I'd have bought a Mustang. I want my throttle response back.

Re: My LT1 feels sluggish...

Been messing around, figured I'd update again.

Vacuum is 16"
Fuel pressure is 41 psi at idle. 45 with FPR disconnected and plugged.
Fuel Filter is new

I am going to rule out fuel and vacuum for now.

I think I may have a spark issue. These Taylor wires were put together by me. Opti end only, spark ends were already on from Taylor. Perhaps I screwed one up and I'm not getting good spark from a wire or 2.

Is there any way to test for a bad wire without pulling the wires off? With my luck it will be a p/s wire that is a pain in the butt to get to on the opti.

Re: My LT1 feels sluggish...

You could try a spark tester. They're cheap. One is about the size of a ball point pen and you just touch it to the wire, and watch for it to flash.

Re: My LT1 feels sluggish...

Will check valve lash and spark tester tomorrow.

I may have moisture in the opti. Stalled in the car was when I got underbody. Perhaps it hasn't dried out but that was about a week ago that I tgot the wash.

I don't know a lot, but have you checked your MAF sensor? That wouldn't explain the pressure on the pedal, but with a clogged filter it could have gotten dirty. That is if you are still running a MAF sensor.

Re: My LT1 feels sluggish...

So more money wasted, 11 bucks on throttle body cleaner and MAF sensor cleaner.

I also put a timing light on each plug wire and they all seemed to fire fine, not sure if that is a good gauge for getting good spark.

Yes, no tears in anything. The S shaped hose on the p/s intake was ripped so I replaced that but everything else is fine. I went over all my hoses and intake rubber with starter fluid to check for hiccups and there were none.

I was thinking that with the Y pipe being so small maybe having the cat put on was too clogged and causing the problem so I dropped the Y pipe and ran open headers and the problem was still there so I have ruled out the following.

Fuel pressure is good - fuel filter is also new.
Vacuum is good, 16" - no tears.
MAF Sensor was cleaned with MAF sensor cleaner.
Throttle body was cleaned with throttle body cleaner.
Air filter was replaced.
Exhaust is not clogged.

I put a timing gun on each wire and they seem to be firing good and consistently.

What I will need to check soon - Valve lash.
