500rwhp NA has been done with the LT1, but is not a realistic goal for most people. If you go FI it is a low goal IF you do the other things right.

Better way to set a goal is performance track MPH and ET and we can better help you get there.

high tens low elevens would be nice.......the car is not going to be a full blown out race car.....used maybe once a week on the street but also reliability and drivability is of concern

383(you gonna buy a forged crank anyway) Ai or LE head/intake package
10lbs of boost(I recommend Procharger). Simmer for 3 hours, remove from heat and BAM 500rwhp.

you can run low 11's without forced induction on a 355.

stock crank
forged h-beams
good pistons (i recommend mahle)

AI 200cc head/cam package
ported intake
long tubes
3.73 gears if auto
3600ish stall
drag radials
suspension

wallah....low 11's

or
forced induction
355
stock crank
forged h-beam rods
good pistons (SRP 24cc dish pistons for example)
stock heads
218/230 -114 cam
supercharger or turbo

well, if you go FI, you want around 9.0:1 compression

10:1 would be pretty high for FI.

you basically have to decide if your going to go FI or NA before you do your short block.

If you do FI, its just as good to do a 355, so thats something to think about as well.

I'm pretty sure a procharger on a stock engine with a cam and minor work can make 500rwhp. Now if it will run hi 10's...probly not unless the car is set up to run 10's

i say low compression shortblock and a mpt70 along with a small cam will take you right where u wanna go... otherwise, a cc305, 9:1 compression on a forged shortblock(355 will be fine), and a procharger D1SC will take you there aswell(say 10-12lbs of boost)...

too many combos and variables in the situation to say for sure, its gunna be whatever you want to do in the long run

yes, a T70 will get you 500RWHP

my personal combo is a 355
9.0:1 compression
stock heads
218/230 cam
MP T70 turbo
hot side all made by me
cold side all done by me

and im aiming for about 550 RWHP, which should be about 8-10 PSI

of couse, a cc305 or cc503 will work good in a turbo application as well

LOLers at David's excellent recipe! FI is the way to go for a fast street or street/strip car where among many other things it has to run the number without drastic weight reduction, needs good manners, must run on pump fuel, etc. Once you get to ~500hp and more, it's expensive either way but much more so with NA, especially as the power level gets even higher. When contemplating this, keep in mind what else will need to be upgraded and what that will cost.

Also, turbo is the way to go for a very high hp solution. For us mere mortals the centrifugal is an easier route to take, IMHO.

i dropped a little over 3 for the top and a bit over 5 for the bottom. you can always build things cheaper, just a matter of what you are willing to sacrifice.
