Need Extensions for MAC Headers?

Someone mentioned that they had to use an O2 extension on the driver's side for the MAC Mid Headers. Does anyone know the truth in this?

Thanks

I did not need extensions for my install. That said in order for you to remove the O2 sensor you have to push the grey thingy that holds the wire in bracket.I did not reuse that bracket, I just let set them free, and I have had no issues.

Thanks for the help, I'm trying to figure out what you are saying about the O2's.

I have removed them before and replaced them. What exactly are you referring to? Is it the small grey tab that is connected to the clip that prevents the clip from coming apart? If so, why didn't you put it back in?

Exactly scoobysnax83.

If I remember correctly, it took me a half hour to try to get that little grey thingy outa the bracket, but I couldnt - cause I suck, so I snapped it off, it dangles only a tad and has been a non-issue.

If I wouldn't have bought the O2 extension for the drivers side, I think I would have snapped a few wire connections, because it was so tight. It wasn't worth the risk. The passenger side is fine. The drivers side was just enough to need an extension.

Mine might be different though since it's a '97 and had dual cats.

Yes Dan,
You are the root of this question, lol. You mentioned it in a different thread. I think the year difference may be the issue here. You are the first person that I have heard of using an extension. I assume you bought the single cat MAC system?

Yeah, I converted to the single cat system.

I didn't order the O2 extension at first. I'm not kidding, the connectors were like 1/2" from being able to connect. If I stretched it any harder. I was almost sure I would break a connector in one of the harnesses.

If it were me, I would go ahead with the install and see if you need it. If you do, it's only a couple of days before a new one arrives, or you could extend the wires on the sensor if you are o.k. with a soldering iron.

Good luck. I posted a quick video of the how the MAC's sound with the Hooker catback. I posted it last night, I think it's a few pages back if you wanted to hear it. Car driving to the left is stock, and driving to the right is the MAC's and Hooker Exhaust.

Instead of purchasing 02 extensions, when I installed my headers I just spliced the wires for free.

Ok, now you all have me worried. How short were your connections Van?

Thanks Brent.

Yeah, I'm a little surprised that the microphone didn't pic up the sound a little better. It got the stock exhaust perfect, but when I recorded the MAC's, it seems to have a little breakup in the sound. Maybe it's just due to the increase in volume. It was super windy yesterday, and that would be it too.

I remember listening to your sound clips over and over from your webpage, saying, that's what I want my exhaust to sound like. I'm going to put a bullet muffler in place of the CAT, like you did, and see how I like it. I just keep wondering how much power the high flow cat is holding back.
