Need help (speedometer problem)

I was in traffic yesterday morning going to work... didn't feel anything abnormal, but "service engine soon" light came on for 3-4 minutes, then went out.

Drove to work OK... didn't think much of it... (I've been wondering if my metal replacement elbow w/ the sensor in it is causing me idle problems??)

I think my alternator/battery are weak, and have a bearing squeal I think from the alternator, so am going to take it into Advance and swap it out (free lifetime warranty).

Anyway, on the way home I'm sitting STILL at a light an notice the speedo rise all the way to 25?? mph. It was idling a little rough and the volts were not in the "red", but getting close. (Nothing abnormal about lights, stereo, AC etc)

I revved it up a little (thinking that I could push more alternator "juice")... speedo went back to 0 but rose up again when I let off... The rest of my commute is interstate, so I didn't notice anything else.

Any ideas folks?

Thx

John T (oh... I did a search, but didn't really know what to start looking for)

Pull the codes. Once the SES light comes on, the codes are stored. Might be for the VSS sensor. Low system voltage can cause a lot of problems.
