Question need valve spring expert

today I started to install new stock valve springs on my 1995 trans am lt1.car is stock as far as i know except for basic bolt ons .apon removing my first valve spring i noticed the ones i have on my car have an noticibly larger girth ,coil and hieght.thinking i gotten the wrong springs i matched them up to the springs on old cast iron caprice heads i had lying around and the new springs matched them perfect.I was wondering if someone could give me some insight on what i can do to figure this out on what seems to be the right spring i dont have any part numbers to go by.

Just curious: why would you install stock springs when the stockers are marginal to begin with. Lt1s seems to run out of steam quickly as you reach the top rpms. A stronger after market spring would emliminate the possible float associated with stockers. JMHO

this motor got 160,000 miles on it ,im putting together another motor right now so far i just got the short block.i dont have the money to do everything right that i want to do. I got these springs dirt cheap and would be better than whats on it now while i drive it around.changing springs is no big task for me thats what i love to do.work on cars.

What led you to believe that the "dirt cheap" springs were Lt1 stockers? I would be hesitant to put any springs on that were less strong than the stockers. A machine shop should be able to tell you what the pressures are on the springs to ensure that they are capbable of handling your stock lifts.

How well do your stock retainers fit the new springs? Many here probably have low-milage stock springs sitting around that they might donate to you for the postage. JMHO

A set of LT4 springs can be had "dirt cheap" and you would know what you had in your hands.

thats my whole situation .i figured i have stock springs because there wasn't too much love given to this car untill i got it. Im not putting good springs on it because they will come when i decide on what cam i will be putting on my new motor .it appears at one point someone put larger springs on.does the lt1caprice impala have the same springs as cam, trns am or are they different' thats why my post says valve spring expert.

It would be easier for us if you had a picture with the two side by side.
