Need VATS help/ what are these wires for?

I just finished removing the aftermarket alarm from my 94 Z28, because it was a total hack job and was doing some really crazy stuff. I noticed that the wires for the VATS system are just dangling from the column and theyre not connected to anything. Looks to me like someone bypassed the VATS at some point in time.

Where do i need to look for the VATS module so i can hook these back up? What does it look like?

Theres also 2 other wires that I dont know what to do with them. One is purple with a white stripe, and the other is white with a black stripe. They look to be about 16 or 18 gauge, and theyre both hooked up to a weather pack type connector, but I dont see anything to connect them to.

TIA

Well, I just dealt with some vats issues so I'll try to help. The vats module is on the driver side (it was on my 93 at least) and has a 16 pin green connector going to it. In order to bypass mine, I grounded the small wire from the starter relay and then programmed out the vats and it started up fine, but I still get a security light.. go figure. I think there is a wire that you can splice a resistor into going into the vats module and that will allow you to use a key without the resistor in it.. but not sure on the color of the wire... maybe do a search?

The wht/blk and ppl/wht wires you found with the connector on them is the wiring that goes to the VATS for the key pellet. The odd connector you found probabably has a resistor in it for the bypass. If you want the system to work normally, remove what is plugged onto those wires and connect the two white wires from the column to those wires. That should restore the system to the way is was as stock. Hopefully the key cylinder will read the key ok and there is not a problem with it.

The only thing on the white and purple wires is the connector. I just need to clip the connector off and then connect the wires to the white wires from the column? Just making sure i understand what youre telling me

Maybe I misunderstood. If you have the wht/blk and ppl/wht wires with a small connector on them that has nothing plugged into it, then you need to connect the two white wires from the column to it. The wires from the column should have had a connector on it at one time to plug into the wht/blk, ppl/wht wires. When people bypass reading the key pellet, they unplug that connector and use a resistor to connect to the wht/blk, ppl/wht wires.

Ooooohhhh, i gotcha now. I hadnt had any coffee yet when i checked the boards lol.

Unfortunately the white VATS wires from the column are just cut off. Thats why I asked if I should cut the connector off the wht/blk & prp/wht wires and then connect them to the white wires from the column.

Or should I just find out the value of my key pellet and use a resistor so VATS is bypassed again? I know I would be losing the security aspect, but it would be nice to know the VATS isnt gonna give me problems.

It's your call on bypassing the resistor in the key. You can just measure your key and then get a resistor to plug into the connector.
