New 383 won't idle

Re: New 383 won't idle
very low, it almost sounds like only a few cylinders are firing and im starting to second guess myself on the timing chain now. Im positive it is on correctly:

If you notice the Half moon slot on the crank sprocket is the one to put on the crank and its to the right, so that means my DOT was in the middle lined up with my cam sprocket dot and yes it was at TDC #1 when it was like that so that rules the chain out. I just loosened some valves and its still doing this crap. Only other thing I can think of is that the opti is bad, it was sitting in my backyard on the table so it could very well be bad now but its only 3 months old. If not, im not sure what else it could be. It sounds like its missing and some cylinders aren't firing, like its trying to stay alive on four cylinders.

Re: New 383 won't idle
Dumb question.... but are you sure all injectors are plugged in. Not sure if it would throw a light but possibly a code, not sure. Your problem sounds strange, to say the least. It looks as if your timing chain is correct.

Have you cracked the throttle stop screw at all to see if it idles then? My cam only setup wouldnt idle otherwise, if yours hasnt been touched, then thats a good place to start.

Once again, not gonna touch it as i've done that beforee and it only band-aids a problem. I've had this cam in the 350 before and idled smooth as silk. Thats not the issue. I did get it running a little better after noticing a wire was cut from me putting the engine in, now it will idle but I can still hear a miss, im gonna look for more broken wires because I think the bellhousing studs snagged a couple.

Re: New 383 won't idle
That was about the only thing I did do to mine. In fact, it may be a bit too much. I got to adjust it a bit. My only problem was my ABS inop light came on. I need to chase that one down......

Re: New 383 won't idle
You are also onto a 383 now though, needing more air to breathe.
Im not sure about what the cam and idle has to do with the throttle stop screw. Dont want to insult you, but opening that up will not raise the idle rpm, but will alow the car the air it needs to idle. Just making sure you know that.

Re: New 383 won't idle
Ok, tried again and it stays idling for a little bit, but now if I give it gas it dies at around 1700 rpm if I put my foot further. IAC counts are sticking around 80-109 at idle. KAP is staying at 40-60 during idle. I also discovered I have a moderate oil leak on the back of the intake. Would this be a vacuum leak or wouldn't this actually raise the idle because it would suck air through there?
I was unaware of that, I may just do that if all else fails. Lets just say I went through a lot of crap with another engine after screwing with the idle air screw on the throttle body of a different camaro. The damn IAC never let it idle again after that.
