New best time, dyno tuning + track results

I finally made it. The car is still slipping like a **** and i'm missing some good tid-bits but it was moving pretty good last wednesday night at COCA COLA RACEWAY PARK in Carolina, Puerto Rico. This track sucks donky ***** BTW, the track prep was awesome, but it's just humid and hot and my car always runs like .3 seconds slower and 1-2 mph less than the other track I go to In Salinas, Puerto Rico.

Some may recall the blunders and frustrations I've had with the car, they are plenty and I've considered burning the car many times. But, this past spring break not only did I get mucho action from the GF (YEEHAAAWWW ) but the car also responded very well to an hour and a half dyno tuning session.

The car had previously shown a best of 301.8 RWHP uncapped (open cutout) at 5900 rpm, however it dropped off rather quickly, Brian at PCM for less did a fine job with the mail order tuning, however his tranny program was horrendous. The car was supposed to have "soft shifts" and what it ended up with was a 3000 rpm lag between shifts that hurts my performance like no tommorrow. I still have to resolve this issue with my local programmer. At the dyno I discovered the car only putting down 279 rwhp this time. WTF happened? Well, for one all exhaust leaks were sealed (which sort of gave me too much backpressure with the edelbrock cat-back), I'd redone my valve settings quickly and the intake filter was "just a tad smaller than the stock K&N FIPK unit). Also, the EDELBROCK cat-back can be rather restrictive on a car with a cam and even home ported heads.

So, Highlander (as he's called on here) tuned the car using the A/F readings. The car made max power on a 13.6 ratio. Very lean apparently, but we managed to raise the car's peak power to 301.9 rwhp again, only this time completely capped, we didn't even tune with the cutout. Not only that, he lowered the peak power to 5700 rpm and tuned the tables up from 3800 rpm. To our amazement, he managed to tune the car to maintain 290+ RWHP all the way to 6400 rpm!!! WOOWZAA. No more power drop off after peak.

Onwards to the track, where the bullcaca walks and the ET talks.

I had run a best of 13.21 at 104.8 mph in Salinas, Puerto Rico with those un-dyno-tuned open cutout 301 rwhp with a 1.98 60ft time. Remember, this track is always .3-.4 seconds quicker and 1-2 mph faster than Carolina.

So, off I went to Carolina with the GF (5 minutes from her house, what more can a guy ask for ).

These were the results:

First pass (with my GF Shayla going on for the ride)
60 ft.--- 2.013
330 ft.--- 5.57
1/8 ET--- 8.51
1/4 ET--- 13.26 @ 103.66

Second pass (after booting the poor girl out =) )
60ft.--- 1.96
330ft.--- 5.46
1/8 ET 8.37 @ 84.28
1/4 ET 13.05 @ 104.89 (capped)

Third pass
60ft.--- 2.011
330ft.--- 5.516
1/8 ET.---8.39 @ 85.17
1/4 ET.--- 13.019 @ 106.90 (uncapped)

Fourth Pass
60ft.---1.99
330ft.--- 5.47
1/8 ET.--- 8.35 @ 85.09
1/4 ET.--- 12.99 @ 106.5 (uncapped)

So, not only did I run 12's at the slow track, I did this with a FULL TANK of gas, no weight reduction, on PEP BOYS FUTURA Tires, and with a 3000 rpm lag between shifts.

The car has 3.42 gears, a slightly gone 9 year old torsen unit, a 2400 stall SLP TC, crane 104227 cam (powermax 2033), also known as the 210/224, "home-ported heads+, 1.6 roller tip rockers, and 1 3/4" Random tech headers.

Finally, something to show after all that work. I can't wait to have the LT4 rockers on there, a fixed differential, a hard shifting tranny and maybe some nitrous... WOOOOOOOOOO! Not bad for the mildest of the mild setups.

all that you have done you should be in the 12.7s at least, you have cam headers ported heads, dyno tune. and you can get there if you drop those 60s.

but im sure weather plays a part in it to. what was the weather that day.

I know it should be quicker, but the car still has some issues. The tranny hits the rev limiter between shifts on at WOT, it shifts perfectly fine under normal conditions. Also, the lag between shifts at WOT is just downright crazy. I must be losing .2-.3 seconds right there.

The 60 ft's are on street tires, I didn't run with my hoosiers because I have a bad rear axle. I basically just ran it right after filling the gas tank. I was trying to see where I was.

The weather was mid 80's, humidity, as always must have been very high because Carolina is right next to El Yunque National Rainforest. Dry there is out of the question...

Ahhh, street tires...that explains it. 1.99 with stock tires aint bad. i was cutting awesome 2.4's with them hehehe
