new guy here... 1st post.... and i need a LOT of help!
i need to build a 700 hp 350 based motor... i am familiar with nitrous motors but have not ruled out an all NA motor.
i assure you i am serious in this buildup and if you will do a search on corral.net for "brad" you will see the 66 nova SS that i just purchased rolling chassie.
i have actually thought of putting my boss 302 in it thats blown and has nitrous.. it's pumping around 850hp.. but i never liked cross breading..
you can see the car at http://www.boomspeed.com/bad67chevyii/chrisandpat.jpg
its the orange one in the background..

You're gonna have to rule out NA if you want 700hp. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I'm sure it would be easier to get what you want with a solid heads/cam setup and a blower. Or a twin turbo setup if you want to really set yourself apart!!
I take it you are considering using some type or parts off of an LT1 motor?

i was recommened to this site by dave88lx off the corral..
i was actually considering buying a vortech out of a truck or soemthing and starting the project from their..
700HP NA is a simple combo.. i have all the blueprints but cant afford the pieces.. it came from a 400 sbc that was stroked, alky setup, 16:1 compression, afr heads, big solid roller, etc.....
i wouldnt mind copying this engine... but it's expensive.. so i was just kicking stones over looking for options..

well i'm not really sure.. but in the neighborhood of just under 10 grand.. the rolling chassie cost me 12,500 headers were 1500... tranny was 2500 for a powerglide and the converter was 1000......... now all i need is a motor..

Welcome to the board HOSS!!! My question to you is what is your budget? 700 horses is attainable as you are already aware and N/A at that....depends on your budget. I can tell you what I think would be a great addition to a 66 nova but I want to see what your spending limit is. I got a couple suggestions that are street legal.

You first need to decide which version of the small block Chevy you plan to use. This is the "LT1 Tech" forum.... obviously dealing with the Gen 2 SBC. But they never built a "vortech out of a truck " in an LT1 version. There's a Gen 1 version, and from 1999 and up Chevy/GMC trucks there's a Gen 3 version.
If I was building a 700HP engine for a 66 Nova, I think I'd use the Gen 1 platform, which offers a huge selection of blocks, parts ranging from mild to obscene, heads, etc. If you lock yourself into a Gen 2 LT1, you are limiting yourself to a very specific set of more expensive aftermarket parts, no aftermarket block, issues with the front mounted distributor, etc. Would look good in a 66 Nova, but there are easier ways to make 700HP.
Are you sure you want an LT1?

i thought i was stating my budget to be just under 10 grand and i already have a set of fenderwell headers that cost me 1500 for a small block. i'm not changing headers! lol
