Question New Heads

what has to be done to put sbc heads on my lt1 motor?
and will the forged internals from a 355sbc work on a lt1 thats .30over?

i can get a sweet a** sbc with indy heads and stuff, it runs 10.301/4 in a gutted s/10. i figure if i could make it work in my car i could probably pull off 11.50 or so,
would it be worth the trouble?

thanks in advance
jim

Re: New Heads

Get another radiator and run it as a conventional small block. It's done every day.
The block can't be fixed to run reverse cooling.

Re: New Heads

If you do want to use the LT1 block it will take quite some work, if the crank is a 1 peice rear seal it will be cake bottem end wise, but if its a 2 peice you'll need a rear seal adapter.
The heads are a different story, they will physically bolt on, but you'll notice immediately the water jackets and passages are off, some welding and drilling will need to be done, then the intake will have to be adapted , or just use a traditional SBC intake.

what do you mean, put the whole sbc in my car? i thought it would not fit because of motor mounts and such, also i kinda wanted to stay E.F.I. and im not sure what intake would work on a sbc.

Re: New Heads

I put a sbc in a 94 bird. if you make it carb'd, you'll give up your wipers, and need a cowl, but other than that it will drop right in. we did use a bmr kmember though becuase of weight/space savings. I really recomend it to anyone with the cash. where in garden city are you? I live in dearborn heights (for another month anyways) near ford road and beech daly. if you do put that engine in your car, Id think you should be able to get atleast low 11's if not high 10's with the right setup.
cool car and YES, the new wheels look a MILLION times better lol.

Re: New Heads

oh yeah, and if you wanted to stay efi, you'd need an aftermarket EFI kit, and edelbrock makes several intakes/fuel rails, throttle bodies for the small block chevy/efi.

thanks for the flowers on my car
im near cherry hill and middlebelt, im always on telegrah on the weekends trying to street race( when detroit pd is busy )

cool to find someone close in the area to me, i think that i will just either keep the lt1 motor or im suppost to trade off this car for an 87 grand national,
it already runs 12.20 and is pretty clean.

see my friend has a forged 355 that he wants to pretty much give me
so i was thinking about building this car now but it still would be a ton of money.

i could get from him,

th350 with 3800 cone convertor set up for full race with fresh rebuild

moser axles and full spool for my 10bolt he also has the girdle and t/a

he has everything i need to put that th350 in my car and the rear end would be strong enough for now.

im just not sure if its worth all the hassle or not, some say to stick with the 4l60e and get a unit from cpt but thats 1000.00.

i dunno, sorry for babbling on here im done now

Re: New Heads

Well an LT1 355 with a good cam and some ported heads with 3.73s and a 3000 stall in the 4L60E can nail 12.2s pretty easily, add some juice to the mix and 12.20s are long gone.

Re: New Heads

alright then, you trade for the GN, and I'll buy the TH350setup. I want to do that swap also. dont need it now, but once I have the NX kit on there, I"ll need a nitrous stall, and a beefed up trans to back it up. and since i have to have a driveshaft made anyways, might as well have it made for a th350. I might just go 400 though since I got a line on one of those already.

Will fit nicely. Redrill your intake to SBC bolt pattern and get it drilled for a dist and let er rip. Or ya could get an earlier EFI set up with all the right holes or a Holley Stelth Ram--- there are many options.
