New mods, new times

Last week I ran 13.88 @ 99.6 mph with my 1995 Z28 A4. Since then, I hollowed out the cat, removed the muffler, 160 deg thermostat, Hypertec power program, homemade 3" pvc cold air intake, and LT4 Knock module. The car went 13.40 @ 102, almost 5 tenths better!
With a 50 dry shot, hit right after hitting the gas to hook, it went 12.56 @ 105.6. I was shocked at that! The 60 foot time was 1.76 (stock converter) BFG drag radials and it went 7.99 in the 8th @ 86 mph.
Just thought I would let you guys know what you can expect doing these things.

Thanks,
I forgot to mention that my car has 101,000 miles on it. I have also done the tb bypass, aluminum driveshaft, 1.6 roller rockers, 612 valve springs, descreened maf, underdrive pulley, Moser 9" with 3.89 gear and tpis airfoil.

Hahahaha... oh damn. You left out alot of stuff man. I was like "Damn, if he can get a 13.4 with those little mods I should be somewhere in the high 12's!" But now I know better lol.

When I first got my car last year, I ran it with nothing else but an oil change, BFG drag radials, and trans fluid change and it went 14.93 @ 93 mph. The car was a total dog...turbo bugs were beating me! It was a little bit hard to start so I checked the fuel pressure and it was 33 lbs. The stock fuel pump was on its way out. I put the Walbro pump in and WOW! What a difference! The following week, it went 14.40 @ 95.5 - that was just the fuel pump.

The next time I went out, I installed new plugs, air filter, tpis airfoil, tb bypass, and underdrive pulley. The best I could get out of it was a 14.32 @ 96.8 mph. It was pretty hot that day, and very humid so it probably could have done better. I was all set to lay at least a 14.20 or so with all of those things. I drove home a bit disappointed.

The following week, I installed a Moser 9" locker with 3.89 gear (originally a 3.23 with posi going out). It went 14.10 @ 97.3 mph. It was a cool night so I pretty much got what the car was capable of. I was pretty happy - especially with the mph gain. The 9" is notorious for eating up power so I wasn't expecting that.

A few weeks later, I installed 1.6 roller rockers, guideplates, 612 springs, retainers, keepers, and hardened pushrods. It was hot out that night but it went 13.91 @ 99.3 mph. The car was clearly running better and a few weeks later, it went 13.88 at 97.6.

That was the best I had done until last night with those mods -hogged out cat, 160 thermo, Hypertec program, LT4 knock module, muffler removed, and extreme cold air intake 3". Those mods put me at the current 13.40 @ 102 off the bottle, 12.56 with a 50 dry shot.

Little things really add up with these cars! Now I need a converter and headers.

Damnit i really want the 24th to roll around so i can take mine to the track and spray the 150 shot.

But i dont think im going to have time to install my new fuel pump before our dyno/track day on the 24th. So i guess im going to see what this 204K mile fuel pump has left in it

As rich as the car runs at WOT im assuming it works pretty good

That's awsome. Almost a second off with just a 50 shot? Just think what you can get with headers and a torque converter.

I was shocked at that too. The jet I used was .042 which I think is about a 50 shot. I was a new bottle with 1000 lbs of pressure in it.

This is the same Compucar system I used on my 1996 Neon with underdrive pulley and Dynomax super turbo muffler that went 14.86 @ 93 with the 50 shot. It went 16.83 without the bottle so that was 2 seconds off the quarter time.

I had a 1970 Buick LeSabre 4 door that I put a 150 fogger kit on back in 1987. The car had 295 hp from the factory I think I remember, and although it weighed over 2 tons, it ran 15.70 off the bottle, and 13.60 @ 101 on the bottle. You talk about a sleeper! It was also my pizza delivery car when I went to Ohio State - I couldn't believe I was getting paid to race people all night with that thing!

Thanks for the good laugh. That list is only about 25 rwhp worth of stuff.

25 hp at best!

Yes, I used to run at National Trail in the late 80's. Now I live in Dayton and race at KilKare in Xenia, OH. I still go to NTR for the Super Chevy Show - just to watch.

Re: New mods, new times

I plan on either a new torque converter or headers for the next time out. I bet the torque converter would help the most.
